Taking out of the equation how evil this is, this is also politically stupid. A vast majority have indicated in polling they will blame Trump for this.

The report is about to come out pretty soon, so as a reminder, the last version of the AHCA:

-Reduced the deficit over 10 years by $150 billion
-Increased the number of uninsured over 10 years by 24 million

There are concerns among House GOP that the most recent changes may have wiped out the deficit savings. If it is below $2 billion I believe, they may have to vote on the House bill again because it wouldn't meet the standards for reconciliation (simple majority in Senate instead of 60 votes). It is likely that we will see both lower deficit reduction numbers and lower numbers of uninsured for this new score, in comparison to the previous score. Maybe something like $50 billion reduction and 20 million more uninsured.

Dylan Scott thinks Mitch McConnell is setting up the bill to fail. I agree. I think the political capital to sustain the Trump Administration in the wake of revelations and the AHCA is too high. They have to pick and choose. Read the interview here.

People, look at when major laws were passed. Look at the President's popularity at the time. And now put on top of this the investigation. Trump is at 39-55% and unable to effectively champion the AHCA or any variation of it.

This is dead in the Senate. The Republicans' best interest is to patch the law and make it work to claim credit, not pass the AHCA or anything similar to it.
