And now they need to...you know...come up with a bill that they can actually get 50 votes on. A whole different game than just a motion to proceed.

Wake up and stop being naive. This is going to pass.

Anything the GOP puts up is going to be more difficult.
Moderates will likely vote No if the bill reduces coverage too much on too many.
Conservatives (think Sen. Rand Paul) will not like it because it doesn't "repeal" enough (or completely).
McCain right now, is saying he does not like the GOP that exist right now, and he will vote No.

Despicable. Shame on them. Vote these ******** out of office.

Half hearted good for Murkowski and Collins.

McCain could have voted no and forced this back to regular order. WTF is he talking about?! Did the cancer do that much damage already?

I am fully aware of the consequences of this bill. Rather than call people naive and take a rather lazy approach to analysis in just saying it's going to pass, take the time to actually read up on what's been going on in this process, and you'd know that passage of a bill is going to be very difficult. Not impossible, but examine this every step individually.

Uh, obviously I've "taken the time" to research the process. I just have no faith that Republicans are actually going to let this slip away after 7 years of promising to repeal. They'll find a way to get 50 senators on board.

So the procedure to bring the bill to floor for a debate is on. However, the bill is currently in dead zone.

Huh? It's simple. He's a partisan hack.  The 'Maverick' persona was always PR bullsh**t.

worth noting that yes it's difficult to get a final bill done, but this time last week it looked completely dead.

I expect now that Lee/Paul/Johnson will all support it, then it will be like the House again where the mushy types e.g Heller/Capito will just get bribed.

I imagined this is how a lot of people felt in 2010 with Senators like Blanche, Bayh etc. Just pick a position; and be with it. Don't do this stupid back and forth.

And not that it needs reminding; but John McCain is nothing special. It's not 2000 anymore.

Oh, I know, but he has nothing to lose at this point, and given the health episode he just suffered, you'd think he'd have SOME sort of epiphany.

McCain always was a conservative, so you can't really blame him for not having a spine. It's still very disappointing though.

Murkowski voting No is actually a horrible sign for this bill's health, given Rand Paul's repeated statements that he won't vote Yes on passage of anything except clean repeal. People are calling this way too early.

McCain was once a maverick. He got more conservative over time though, with 2008 and 2010 marking the crossing of the rubicon.

Democrats are requiring that every amendment is read out loud as a delay tactic.

That's kind of what I mean when I say lazy. When people say it's going to pass just because. The positions that some senators have already put themselves in make getting 50 senators very difficult. If acknowledging that fact makes me naive, well then I don't have anything else to add.

So then you have Murkowski, Collins and Paul safe Nays? Plus McCain at the moment? A certain defeat at the floor. So much for the winning. (but I don't want to celebrate before it's done).

Paul has said he wants a vote on clean repeal... but hasn't said what he'll do after that. Will most likely vote for it, and then go on about how he 'forced a vote to repeal all of obamacare' etc

Can the Democratic Party stop talking about compromise now?

Not a single Democrat tried to compromise on this. We're in this mess because the American people failed to send enough Democrats to Congress and the White House, not because the Dems in DC rolled over.

It got the same amount of Democratic support as Obamacare got from Republicans.. partisanship has been strong for a while.

They need to start throwing chairs

I'd like a repeat of this for the 21st century:

Democrats adopted 108 amendments from the GOP and put them in the ACA

The GOP just can't govern period

Like I said, it got 0 Republican votes.
