Yeah it doesn't kill enough people for bloodthirsty white nationalist "Ayn" Rand Paul.

We'll know this bill is going down if Cornyn announces it has 50 votes and the vote will be held by the end of the week.

Graham does not have 50 votes. While a strange course of events may lead us to 50 votes, he does not have 50 votes currently. They shouldn't have too much trouble getting everyone with the exception of Collins, Murkowski, McCain and Paul. I am of the belief that Paul will not have a problem being one of the three that kills this, if it is just the three of them (if McCain goes Yes).

If Paul is the third no, then I bet you we will see other conservatives vote no.

This bill will pass with 51 or fall well short IMO.

If there are three public Nos before the vote, perhaps. It wouldn't be Johnson since his name is part of the bill, but maybe Lee and/or Moran would be the next likely people if the bill is going down anyway. Then again, they won't vote on it if there are three public Nos.

Given that Congress has left for the week and doesn't meet again until Monday, it'd be hard to have a vote this week. Wink

Vote, if it happens, will be sometime between Wednesday the 27th and Friday the 29th.

In which Dean Heller lies so brazenly that one can only assume that he does truly think the people of Nevada are idiots.

At least Graham has been partly open about how badly this bill screws over some states.

The senate has not even adjourned Today's session (as of 7 ET): https://mobile.twitter.com/senategopfloor?lang=en

The reason why there isn't going to be a vote this week is because they're confirming nominations for the week. They do get Thurs/Fri off for the Jewish Holiday, but will be in session through tomorrow.

House Speaker Paul Ryan and Donald Trump have rejected any bipartisan fix to Obamacare:

Now, Berniecare is full-blown single-payer socialism. It is his dream and that's where Democrats are going."

Choose one.
Seriously, the only GOP Senators I have some respect left for are Murkowski, Collins and McCain.

In spite of me having a socialist avatar(I'll probably change that soon), I actually am alarmed by the conflation of socialism and social democracy because it will either make social democracy less popular or actual totalitarian socialism more popular, both of which are not good outcomes for me.

Earliest possible moment for next week's vote is Tuesday, as Monday is reserved for confirming an NLRB nomination.

At this point, I'd want single payer to pass simply because it would be impossible for the GOP to repeal it in one fell swoop - since they seem determined to attempt to wreck the healthcare system on a nearly monthly basis whenever they control the government.

One thing that strikes me as odd is this  - they lost last time essentially because McCain was upset with the lack of bipartisanship and decided to f**k them. So their solution this time is to publicly give the middle finger to bipartisanship to put pressure on people? Like, it doesn't seem like the ideal design for that end.

I almost wonder whether this isn't just for show with Senate Republicans feeling like they needed to give the appearance of an Obamacare repeal fight right before the deadline arrived.

That's one thing that's possible. It's either some way of saying "we tried" or they could have passed it all along but are trying to make themselves appear more capable or the opposition more powerful than they are in order to keep the traditionalists and populists happy.

If this thing does pass, this might give us  a prelude to what the overturn of Roe v. Wade would look like. That is, the Feds just punted on a major issue and it would then be up to the 50 states each to come up with a solution.

It can only be explained by the fact that they're trying to do their worst.

They are bad people who get off on walking on the poor. Once you accept that fact, everything makes sense.

That's what it would look like. Striking down Roe v. Wade would just enable states to do what they wanted with abortion, not make it illegal.

Grassley's right that not repealing ObamaCare is a net negative for republicans - every vote they gain for not actually killing 16-32 million people comes at the cost of two or three republican base votes staying home because they don't like that Republicans broke a signature campaign promise. The problem is that repealing ObamaCare is also a net negative for republicans - every vote they gain from the increased energy repeal would give to the republican base comes at the cost of two or three voters who voted for Trump because they wanted NAFTA repealed, but don't like the idea of losing their health care. Since Republicans lose either way, they should do the morally and ethically better thing - which is to drop repeal of ObamaCare and instead focus on stabilizing and improving it.
