Zero surprise. The bill is vastly insufficient as a repeal and replacement of Obamacare in its current form. A repeal and replacement of Obamacare will probably happen, but not this one.

Who would have thought that after eight years of continuously Republican obstruction of RomneyObamacare it would come down to this... the Republicans neither having a good idea nor a basic agreement with each other as to with what RomneyObamacare should be replaced with.

FF.

For Obamacare's flaws, and there are some big ones, replacing it with a pile of crap helps no one but GOP donors.

It could die in committee?! That's pathetic.

Of course. If all those Congressmen had to vote on the record they'd have to then choose between.

1. Running next year against wall to wall pushing granny off a cliff ads

Or

2. Voting against a Republican replacement of Obamacare after seven solid years of grandstanding about it

If Brat or any other Republican committee members want to kill this before it gets to a floor vote then I don't think their colleagues will object too strenuously.

I fixed the title, at least for my reply.  This tar baby is far more Ryan's baby than Trump's.

Here's a good whip list:

Quote
You must be logged in to read this quote.

No
1. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (Florida) -- "I plan to vote no."
2. Tom Garrett (Virginia) -- "Right now I'm a no. I'm a firm no."
3. Mark Meadows (North Carolina) - "What is conservative about a new entitlement program and a new tax increase?"
4. Rob Wittman (Virginia) -- "I do not think this bill will do what is necessary for the short and long-term best interests of Virginians and therefore, I must oppose it."
5. Dave Brat (Virginia) -- "I can't support."
6. Andy Harris (Maryland) -- Opposes in its current form
7. Darrell Issa (California) -- Bill "not in a form I can approve of"
8. Tom Massie (Kentucky) -- "Stinking pile of garbage"
9. Ted Yoho (Florida) -- "I could not support the bill as it is right now."
10. Justin Amash (Michigan)
11. Raul Labrador (Idaho)

Leans no or has very serious concerns
1. Trent Franks (Arizona)
2. Jim Jordan (Ohio) -- Very critical. Introduced "clean repeal" bill
3. Louie Gohmert (Texas) -- "Just one thing is not going to fix it"
4. Mark Sanford (South Carolina) -- "Lean no"
5. Walter Jones (North Carolina) -- need to slow down
6. Mo Brooks (Alabama)
7. Leonard Lance (New Jersey) -- "I do not want to vote on a bill that has no chance of passing over in the Senate."
8. Claudia Tenney (New York) -- "Just looking at what the CBO report came out with, and some of the issues in New York, I'm leaning toward voting no."

Exactly. If Trump had wanted his name all over it then his name would be all over it. He's already talking about extensive renegotiates over this, including involving Democrats in the negotiations, which might hint at moving the bill way to the left. I somewhat suspect that right now he's supporting Paul Ryan in this matter in the same way a rope supports a hanged man.

Very interesting comments from Trump in an interview he did with Tucker Carlson yesterday. He talked about signing this bill 'or another bill soon'. He talked a lot about the need to negotiate because 'there are only 52 Republicans in the Senate and not one Democrat will vote for it' because of partisanship. When asked about the recent reports of the richest being better off under this law whilst many poorer counties that voted for him being worse off he did not defend or deny it but instead said that there would be plenty of 'negotiation'. He said 'he would not sign' and bill that 'doesn't take care of our people'

He also said that he thought he would get some Democrats to vote for phase 3 as there would be lots of 'goodies' there including bringing down prescription drug prices which would be in phase bill or perhaps even in a seperate bill just for drug prices.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=2XwPX_ijMlQ

As I've said before Trump has always been an advocate for universal healthcare and many things in that interview point in that direction.

Now it comes out what I have been arguing for a long time: the GOP has neither a real plan for an Obamacare substitute nor the consensus to pass one. Governing is much more difficult than just yelling “Obamacare is bad and must be repealed”.
