The irony, of course, is that Jackson was in favor of free trade and open borders. I would much rather have him as President than Trump. But Trump was the best presidential candidate in the primaries, won TN by a landslide in both the primary and general, and I supported him. Rubio and Cruz would have much better replicated Jackson's 1828 win than DJT, constituency-wise (cf., 2008 and 2012), as DJT incorporated a lot of National Republican ideas.

Trump so badly wants to be like Andrew Jackson but he's just a fat trustfund kid who occasionally sexually assaults women. Sad!

President Jackson and President Trump were both elected to fight the system.

Nobody ever VOTED for political correctness. We didn't choose these things. They kinda just happened because the system or establishment or whatever you want to call it decided that that's "the way it should be."

America responded by saying, "No. It's not."

Jackson shook up Washington for the better and so will Donald Trump. No glass ceilings no yes we can no change we can believe in. He's going to make it simple, as he says, "America first."

It's a nice breath of fresh air after the globalist viewpoint I've had to deal with my entire life while following current events.

Can someone post a summary of the remarks? I have trouble watching video.

As EHarding said, Jackson was for free trade and open borders. He came to power after being denied the presidency despite winning the most votes in 1824, then he came back to win the popular vote with huge turnout in 1828. He was a great progressive who expanded the franchise and opened the door for common people to enter government. He fought the central bank and the Wall Street faction, and was suspicious of business interests. He loved his wife dearly and defended her from social bullying. Trump is not, so far, any of these things. Instead of winning the most votes and opposing the Electoral College, he has lost the popular vote by the most since 1888 and was only elected because of the College. Instead of expanding people's power in government through their franchise, he has curtailed it by making accusations of voting fraud, while his party makes it more and more onerous to vote. Instead of attacking banks or curtailing business power, he has appointed powerful bankers and business lobbyists to his cabinet and put them in charge. Instead of defending his wife from others' bullying, he has bullied women himself, and put her in a situation she never wanted to be in. Jackson's greatest achievement was making government more democratic, Trump is going in the opposite direction.

Basically this. Unless they want him to embrace ONLY Jackson's negatives, which begs the question...

-He mentions Jackson imposed protective tarriffs to protect the American worker. He neglects to mention this was a compromise tarriff, and a downward revision of the Adams-era Tarriff of Abominations. Tarriffs were a cross-partisan issue in Jackson's day, and Jackson was ambiguous about them when he first came into office, but from the beginning the National Republicans were identified with ultra-high tarriffs, and that the low-tarriff position became generally accepted by the Dems after Jackson left office.

At least Jackson won the Popular Vote and an actual Electoral Landslide...before The House ganged up on him. Trump got one of the lowest EV scores and lost the popular vote bigly. Sad!

Oh, and he's whining about it instead of laying the groundwork to do better...Jackson, he created a party for his points and it stands.

I don't think being for free trade in the 1820s or 1830s would mean you would support TPP today.

I said it was a flaw. You think I condone that stuff?

I just don't use race and gender issues as litmus tests.

Yeah, trade is one of those issues that has changed dramatically over the years. I seriously doubt William Jennings Bryan who railed against tariffs would be a free-trading neoliberal today.
