Senators,

Per Subsection 1.2(a) of the Voting System Reform Bill, there will be four senators on the Voting System Reform Commission (VSRC), one of which will be me, and three of which will be chosen by the Senate at large.

Before we start anything else, I would like to ask Senators to state here whether or not they are interested in being a part of the VSRC.  Once all senators have declared, voting will commence on the interested candidates.

While that's getting done, I'll state that the voting system I intend to use is to have Senators rank their top three choices.  The top choice will receive 3 points, the second choice will receive 2 points, and the third choice will receive 1 point.  The top three senators in terms of points received at the end of voting will be the senators assigned to the VSRC.  If anyone has any problems with this system, let me know now so I can work things out.

Having nothing further to say on the matter, I hereby open the floor to the rest of the Senate for either interest declarations or objections to the voting system.

Okay, in that case I'll exercise my dictatorial powers and abolish the commission and appoint myself as Grand Supreme Commission Head.

Seriously, uh, how is this a monumental amount of red tape?  What exactly do you suggest we do?  The point of this commission is to examine the gigantic number of voting systems and decide which is best for Atlasia.  The only part of this commission that may take some time to form is this part, and are you saying that it's a bad thing to make the senators representative of the Senate?

Well since nobody else has said anything I'll say that I don't want any part of this.

ColinW and Sam would be good if they'd want to do it. (That would also depend when Colin got back).

Based on the massive outpouring of desire to be a part of the VSRC, I'm beginning to wonder whether or not we should have gauged Senatorial interest before requiring that we place three senators on the commission. Tongue

Well, this is a headache... no one at all is interested?

Who exactly did we expect to be interested when we voted for the thing?  I'm looking at all of you who registered an "aye" vote. Tongue

I will want to be on this, but can we get the ball rolling.  I'm leaving a week from Tuesday for Alaska, and I'd like to get this done before then.

I highly doubt that the Commission will finish its work in one week, however.

Well, as far as I can tell, we only have three willing senators, so... I'm just gonna skip the voting thing and say that, due to lack of interest, the Senate by default appoints True Independent, MHS2002, and Sam Spade to the commission.

That is all.

Sen. Wixted seemed to express an interest; he should be back from his leadership conference tomorrow.

Maybe the leadership conference will change his mind. Wink

Oh, all right, we'll wait for him.

I don't want to be on this commission. Just more legal mumbo jumbo. Get someone who likes to do tis ind of stuff. Obvioulsy ColinW and SamSpade whould be on it. The last Senator to serve on it  have no idea who it would be. If no one else volunteers I will, but I doubt we will see a lack of Senators volunteering.
