Here's my predictions for McCain winning/losing.

Winning:

Vice President Al Gore (D-TN)/Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) - 260 EV
Senator John McCain (R-AZ)/Senator Connie Mack III (R-FL) - 278 EV

Losing:

Vice President Al Gore (D-TN)/Governor Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) - 320 EV
Senator John McCain (R-AZ)/Senator Connie Mack III (R-FL) - 218 EV

Just some notes about both maps, but I think without the help of Karl Rove, West Virginia would stay a reliably Democratic state. McCain's more moderate stances would also help with undecided voters in very tight states OTL (New Mexico, Oregon, Minnesota, etc.), however Gore will retain some of Clinton's south because of the aforementioned Karl Rove. Lieberman would refuse to run against John McCain as VP, so Gore picks either Bayh or Shaheen. McCain picking Connie Mack III helps secure Florida for him. The results boil down to campaigning and debate performance, however I think McCain winning is more likely than him losing.

Bayh was already Senator in 2000.

288: John McCain/Christine Todd Whitman - 49.5%
250: Albert Gore, Jr./Howard Dean - 47.6%
Others - 2.9%

Howard Dean outshines Gore, whereas Whitman seems to be the perfect counterpart for McCain. McCain's chief campaigners are George W. Bush, Dan Quayle, and Gordon Smith. McCain is also helped by a "New Republican Caucus," which is started by Michael Bloomberg, John Kasich, and Mitt Romney. This group, while usually operating more independently of McCain, was only closely aligned with McCain after agreeing to fund Dino Rossi and Jon Huntsman. Romney almost attempted to get Leavitt to primary Huntsman, but instead Leavitt successfully primaried Orrin Hatch, with the support of the NRC and Jon Huntsman, Sr.

McCain loses on the scale of Kerry to Bush.
