Sandoval is obviously his own breed, but having a mainstream conservative like Hutchinson express this kind of opposition can't be good for the bill's future

Senators>>>>>Governors. I expect this bill to die in the House, anyway.

2 out of 3 have nothing to lose, because they are termed out. The bill would be a disaster for somewhere like Arkansas, so Hutchinson doesn't have much to lose either by opposing it.

It's interesting though. They would be totally justified in just saying nothing and letting it die on its own. They are choosing to come out against their President's health care policy when they are under no obligation to do so.

Well Kasich's intention is obvious - I don't think the President bug died for him yet. Asa Hutchison is running for re-election, so he must be seeing red with the voters on this issue. As for Sandoval and Snyder, maybe they genuinely see the benefits of the Medicaid expansion in their states and don't want it to go away. Either that, or, like Hutchison, don't want to see their successors (Adam Laxalt in Sandoval's case, Bill Schuette in Snyder's case) get sacked.
