Mr. Birdsall conveniently forgets that according to the Republicans millions of Democrats vote in their primaries so as to sow chaos and confusion. The fact that she admits to voting for Romney is proof she was part of that diabolical scheme. After all true Republicans admitting to having supported Mitch five years ago are as scarce as Democrats admitting to having supported Hillary will be by 2021.

So illegal voting should be excused if the perpetrator votes for the right candidate?

Eight years in prison for illegally voting is a heck of a sentence...

Context: the number of people illegally voting in the United States is somewhere less than an average suburban high school's senior graduating population. The GOP just likes to inflate numbers because they want to make it harder to vote, not to make it easier.

*bump*

There's a new story about her in the NY Times:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/18/us/voter-fraud-fort-worth-trial-rosa-marie-ortega.html

Context: the number of people illegally voting in the United States is somewhere less than an average suburban high school's senior graduating population.

While I doubt it's a huge number, do we really know how big the number is?  This case shows someone who by all appearances registered without even realizing that non-citizens aren't allowed to vote, then got caught only because she acted foolishly once she moved and changed her registration.  I don't know how anyone would be able to come up with a good estimate of how many such cases there are of non-citizens registering when there apparently isn't any good way of catching these cases unless the person in question behaves recklessly by changing their answers on the registration form after the fact.

It's quite a bit more than liberals claim, and quite a bit less than conservatives believe.

The problem is illegal voting happens all the time, and in so many different forms.
It can be voting it two states, voting in a district/state/precinct that isn't yours, voting when not allowed to vote, etc. many times its accidental, many times its malicious, but it is also something so hard to actually uncover. Id bet at least one person who regularly comments has illegally voted, most likely without thinking about it.
