I mostly wouldn't care, probably.

Actually, fairly similar to how Tillerson/Trump are. They are an extremely overrated threat IMO, and I think it's about damn time that we call them on their bluff.

We must leave the DPRK alone. We have killed enough Koreans. They have every right to nukes as any other nation. We don't get to police the world like this. We shouldn't even be in South Korea & Japan.

Slowly and very carefully. Just like past US administrations have been doing, mostly. The ultimate goal is  a non-nuclear North Korea re-joining the world community as a functioning nation. Unification with the South will probably come at some point, hopefully peacefully and without too much cost of proliferation. The hoped goal is a functional, open North Korea in around 50 years.

Things to avoid:

war
nuclear explosions
nuclear proliferation (including a nuclear South or unified Korea)
the same for bio- and chemical-weapons
a massive humanitarian disaster

Probably default to the Minjoo party of ROK and PRC. Don't unilaterally withdraw THAAD, bases and training exercises, but make moves to China that they will be pulled back if the North sets up a timetable for denuclerarisation. Overall the aim should be a neutral and demilitarised peninsula with a vague return to the Sunshine policy, but everything should be multilateral and slowly done.

I think s/he sees North Korean nuclear proliferation as a lesser evil than American imperialism, which actually helped create North Korea in the first place. While this is a wrong perspective, in my opinion, I can respect it at least. We should do everything possible to limit the spread of nuclear weapons and other extremely dangerous forms of weaponry, but this should be pursued through international organizations and multilateral means. Not through American hegemony and threats of warfare, the result of which would be death for innumerable Koreans.

Talk with China. Be prepared to deal North Korea to China in the event that any North Korean missile with a trajectory leading to the USA goes over Chinese airspace.

I just had the funny idea of the OP being Trump himself... the idea of Trump going to internet message boards while President to ask for advice on national security and foreign affairs. It wouldn't surprise me. Tongue

Strengthen our missile defense system, and extend its reach over all our allies in the Asia-Pacific.  All the while improving upon it.

And no, I don't care what China thinks.  They made the decision to make Morth Korea their client state, and they can reap the consequences of that by living in fear that their nuclear deterrent can be neutralized by our efforts to defend ourselves from the prospect of North Korean nuclear attack.

Of course all this can be for nought if an errant North Korean missile hits American territory, and our mentally challenged man child responds by wiping North Korea off the map or goes the more moderate hero route by overthrowing the Kim regime without turning his country into glass -not an unappealing prospect.

We have to take out their families folks. It's the only way. If it were up to me, I'd nuke the hell out of 'em, but that isn't be the politically correct thing to say now, is it? No, it's not. But North Korea is definitely a big big problem that has to be dealt with quickly, and I'm taking this very very seriously. Kim is a bad guy and what he's doing is very bad and has to stop. I'm gonna stop it folks. Believe me. North Korea thinks we're stupid, and we were, they were taking advantage of us for many many years, but not anymore folks. America isn't being led by stupid people anymore. We've got smart people now, and we're looking at options, and we're going to fix all of the problems we're having with Kim and North Korea. Okay? Okay.

I'd take a more nuanced approach; something like this.

Ultimatums, diplomacy, and if all else fails, a coalition of Japan, China, Russia and the United States using non-nuclear weapons to attack their military installations.

I wouldn't go to war based on currently known facts. I'd make it clear they'd face annihilation if they ever used the nukes on the U.S. or an ally. In fact, I'd be willing to ease the sanctions if they'd take steps to alleviate their humanitarian crisis and allowed verification.

I'd get my very small hands on a keyboard and start tweeting about reality shows and fake news.

That'll show em.

Anyway, nobody knew the situation with North Korea could be this complicated.

I would back a coup in the country by backing some General that hates communism.

Juche isn't even really communism anymore, it's basically just Korean racial superiority politics. Fascism by any other name.

1. Continue to press China hard on the issue.

2. Agree to suspend live fire exercises as long as NK suspends missile tests.

3. Initiate bilateral talks.

I'm genuinely surprised the Norks haven't threatened to turn the Trump World Seoul into a sea of fire.

It would have led to another angry tweet storm at 4 am, leading to a media frenzy over whether Trump is only being tough on the Norks to protect his business interests, leading to the Norks posting a video in YouTube where they fire missiles at the Trump World Seoul, and so on.

Any Trump supporter in this thread who doesn't favor the nuclear option is stupid.
