Slowly and very carefully. Just like past US administrations have been doing, mostly. The ultimate goal is  a non-nuclear North Korea re-joining the world community as a functioning nation. Unification with the South will probably come at some point, hopefully peacefully and without too much cost of proliferation. The hoped goal is a functional, open North Korea in around 50 years.

Things to avoid:

war
nuclear explosions
nuclear proliferation (including a nuclear South or unified Korea)
the same for bio- and chemical-weapons
a massive humanitarian disaster
