FDR, even though he had much more to deal with, and thus take credit for.

The one who helped build it, not the one who ordered the imprisonment of an entire ethnic group.

Neither. Mt Rushmore is an unbelievably tacky monument (yanks are free to sneer at any comparative British landmark as revenge)

The criterion for inclusion was "preserving the Republic and expanding its territory.", so it's hard to say. You could make the case that James Monroe is worthier than either.

Neither. Mt Rushmore is an unbelievably tacky monument (yanks are free to sneer at any comparative British landmark as revenge)

Eh, if they'd followed the original design (complete with the Louisiana Purchase plaque), it would have been good. Or, so bold that "tacky" becomes too small a word, like those never-attempted Nazi and Soviet architectural projects.

Agreed but FDR wouldn't make a bad addition

Mount Rushmore "works" because it's a pretty non-partisan monument. None of the presidents up there have a big discrepancy in their approvals between the parties. FDR is probably one of the more popular Democrats with Republicans, but you have to imagine there's a big gap, and if FDR was up there, it would probably be seen as much more of a "liberal" monument than an all-American yay patriotism monument - which is ironic, seeing as it currently doesn't have any Democrats on there.

Let's stop this "change Mount Rushmore" movement that's been infecting this board. It doesn't need to be changed, and the change would bring more government spending.
