Kennedy eliminated after first preferences. Laws and Hughes remains, the campaign turning somewhat ugly as Hughes questions Laws's centrist instincts and support for New Labour, and Laws draws fire on Hughes's record on issues like gay marriage (which he opposes).

Two days.

Hughes

If Laws wins then the Lib Dems will be the most right-wing of the three parties.

I can't, in good conscience, vote for homophobes.

Be careful, I once had a half-dozen posters calling me a homophobe for saying the same thing.

To be fair, we've already seen massive amounts of tactical voting so far. Still, I still have more than a few ideas ready to be implemented if people are too blatant on trying to make it easy for any given party.

Laws seems like a status quo guy, dunno what break up of the social safety net, you are referencing. I will likely still vote Labor in the general. Plus, Lib Dems are supposed to be different than Labor, so creating an actual difference should be the goal of their nominee. I think that gay marriage is too important an issue to be left to the wayside another couple years.

FWIW, I've never voted in Conservative leadership elections, because I know I'd never actually vote Conservative.

Tie. A simple dice roll gives Hughes the victory.
