Meadows is truly embarrassing - it looks like the Freedom Caucus is going to cave.

Norm Ornstein & Eric Boehlert sum things up pretty well:

Thomas Massie, at least, is still a no.

It's pretty funny how the Left is celebrating the Freedom Caucus/Tea Party. They are (maybe) stopping the AHCA because it's not going far enough. What do you think how the next GOP bill will look like. A Little hint: It will be way less centrist. But logic and thinking isn't the strength of Leftists as we all know :-D

Imo the further to the right that this bill gets dragged by the Freedom Caucus, the less likely that the Senate will vote for it.

Yes that's the important thing.  It would also be a great hammer to hit republicans with, if their leadership and "moderate" members are forced to vote for whatever demented monstrosity they come up with.

Remember, the HFC are still shell-shocked by 2016. They still haven't quite accepted that their base have literally no interest in their randian idealogy or small government theory or whatever, and they probably never will. They are willing to sacrifice everything - their president, their congressional majority, their party - to satisfy their idealogy; and Trump and Ryan are both unable to stand up to them.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/03/22/upshot/health-care-vote-whip-count-comparison.html

The Upshot has compiled 8 different whip counts into a single chart. All 8 still have the more than 23 nos.

Seriously I looked it up this new offer is pre-existing converge gone and insurance companies can cover as little as they want

How though? Wouldn't that take 60 votes?

Magical thinking that a new interpretation of the Byrd Rule would give the green light to this change.

Steve Kornacki:

"Dems entered the day of the vote on Clinton's '93 budget 11 votes short - power of presidency/party leadership turned it into a 218-216 win"

"And in '03, Republicans were short *during* the prescription drug vote, then held it open, twisted arms and won 220-215"

https://twitter.com/SteveKornacki/status/844902403208040448

"On the flip-side there was the 1990 tax deal, when Gingrich R's revolted against Bush WH/GOP leadership and derailed it (w/ Dem help)"

My prediction is that this thing either fails catastrophically or passes by a hair. It doesn’t seem like there’s much room for any other possibility.

Another no vote from the middle. Pushing it to the right is causing them to lose folks from the middle.

He's not on any of the lists from the NYT: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/03/22/upshot/health-care-vote-whip-count-comparison.html?_r=0

So add 1 more to all the numbers.

The Hill's whip list has Beutler included. Now at 29 firm no votes and 6 lean/likely no votes there.

Exactly as predicted in this situation.

As it stands now, Trump and Ryan tried to throw the Freedom Caucus a few bones to win them over for AHCA, which causes moderate Republicans to defect to the "no" camp now. I guess this is what "between a rock and a hard place" means. Tongue
