MULVANEY: if the AHCA vote fails, nation is stuck w Obamacare. In other words, trump is done. Negotiations are over.

If Trump's playing 8D chess and wants to keep Obamacare without having to catch heat from Republicans, he may have just accomplished it.
After his "I *heart* trucks" sticker today you still think it's anyway possible he is smart?

The House GOP wanted a vote this week so they could say they repealed Obamacare on the 7th anniversary of its passing. But Obamacare was never secure after March 2010. Besides Court challenges, it was always inevitable that the Republicans would regain control one day. No legislation ever survived in the American political system for the long run without at least bipartisan acquiescence. So ironically, this week may be the week Obamacare passed -- truly passed the American political system, not just Congress. From now on, it's bipartisan. Congrats, Obama!

Time to write a new bill, there's plenty of time, take an Easter break and start over again. Better a good solution after a failed start than a bad solution causing problems in the Midterms.

That sounds entirely rational, I'm skeptical President Pussygrabber's poor fragile ego can take such a devastating blow. The resulting epic tantrum could destroy what cohesion the GOP has left.

Although I suppose it might be possible to distract him with something big and shiny and then get a little governing done while he's occupied.

It's quite hilariously ironic that it now seems the REPUBLICANS will be the one to save ObamaCare in the end.

I mean it's not ironic that they'll ratify the Heritage Foundation plan/Romneycare, but in light of how much Trump promised to get rid of it during the campaign, it is funny. Smiley

Walking away from the table when you have zero leverage does not seem that brilliant. Or maybe it is?!?!?!?!?

Haha, looks like one of those moments where Trump tries to force a deal like he did in the businessworld. Of course, everytime he tried to do that as president he had to find out that things work differently in politics.

If it does in fact work out in the end, kudos to him. But I remain skeptical. Going all macho on congressional Republicans on a 39% presidential approval rating doesn't exactly sound as a recipe for success.

He never actually wanted to repeal it.  He said what he needed to to get elected, and now he's got a way to avoid repeal without completely flip flopping. Most Republicans are just too gullible / loyal to the party to believe it.

I was able to turn on CSPAN briefly and they are showing hallways in Capitol Hill filled with reporters. Some house leadership member half-ran through the group saying "Yep, we'll get it through".

Glenn Thompson was a "no" according to the count on CBS, The Hill and Washington Post, but not according to the New York Times, CNN, NBC, and NPR.

I'm going to stick with the inclination I've had for most of the past couple weeks: the bill will pass by one or two votes on the house floor, and die in the senate.

Enough Republicans will pass it in the House. But it will die in the Senate. Trump's ultimatum is an out for him. And it's designed to do one thing. Keep ObamaCare.

The Republicans know it too. They want the law to stay compared to the alternative. That's the point of all this kabuki theater. They're figuring out who gets to be the bad guys saying no to #AHCA.

Trump will give up / change the topic after the Senate kills the bill.

Apparently, backroom dealing has led to changes nobody knows about:

The way to know Trump is moving on? Remember he lost the popular vote. His approval rating is underwater. And this bill is unpopular. Republicans don't want to deal with the fallout in 2018.

Obama's Great Gamble has paid off. After Easter the Republican Party will own ObamaCare -- in full. And the nation continues on the road to replacing the ACA with a stronger liberal healthcare law.

For the last few weeks, the House GOP leadership has insisted time and time again that they had the votes to pass this terrible piece of legislation. Many in this thread have believed them for reasons that defy comprehension. Why you continue to believe the people that have been lying for a month is, well, unbelievable.
