I have a question: If a vote is held and midway through it becomes clear it won't pass, is it possible for Ryan to suspend voting and continue negotiating with the people he thought would be on his side, or does the bill have to fail before they can renegotiate it?

If Ryan resigns, who might replace him as speaker?

As a Democrat, there is absolutely no way I could have asked for this to go any better. A collosal and high-profile failure at the highest levels of Republican governance regardless of how the vote eventually goes, all without anyone actually losing their healthcare or actually getting Obamacare repealed.

Looks like the bill is dead. The only question now is whether or not Ryan is going to defy the President and pull the bill.

I agree at this point the bill being withdrawn (at least temporarily, for more behind-the-scenes negotiating) is more likely than the bill passing the House.

Frankly, the most shocking this about this whole debacle for me is that the Democrats actually had a backbone and fought for something with unanimity.

So where is House Majority Whip Steve Scalise in all of this? If Republicans wanted a non-Ryan, non-Trump scapegoat to fire, he seems like a good place to start.
