Barletta's reason for opposing the bill is hilariously stupid, but I take every no vote. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Interesting that Trump is roughly paralleling Obama. Entering office with a majority in both houses, immediately pivoting to healthcare, putting together a compromise bill that no one likes and spending an inordinate amount of political capital on it. (The possible difference being that Obama did get something passed.)

If you compare Obama's and Trump's approval ratings in their early presidencies one might say that Trump does't really have any capital to begin with.

Despite some recent defections to the Yes camp, The Hill now counts 25 firm no votes, and 6 lean/likely no votes. The bill is still in the red zone.

The Hill's whip list has Beutler included. Now at 29 firm no votes and 6 lean/likely no votes there.

As it stands now, Trump and Ryan tried to throw the Freedom Caucus a few bones to win them over for AHCA, which causes moderate Republicans to defect to the "no" camp now. I guess this is what "between a rock and a hard place" means. Tongue

Sounds like even if they give the Freedom Caucus all they want, the moderates will then walk away. Almost no way to needle this through.

And even if they somehow succeed, the senate will just kill the bill on its own and put forward its own bill.  What's the point of all this?

Trump and Ryan showing to the world that at least they had been serious about repealing Obamacare.

Is that going to be their argument in 2018?  "Vote for us because we were serious about repealing Obamacare"?

It seems like they haven't really any alternatives.

Obamacare repeal is a disaster. Total disaster. America needs a president who's a dealmaker. Maybe Mike Pence?

For the record... The Hill now lists 33 firm no votes, and 9 additional lean/likely no votes. The numbers just keep growing. Class A clusterf**k.

NEWS: MULVANEY: TRUMP is done negotiating and wants a vote on the AHCA tomorrow, per a source in the room.

MULVANEY: if the AHCA vote fails, nation is stuck w Obamacare. In other words, trump is done. Negotiations are over.

Haha, looks like one of those moments where Trump tries to force a deal like he did in the businessworld. Of course, everytime he tried to do that as president he had to find out that things work differently in politics.

If it does in fact work out in the end, kudos to him. But I remain skeptical. Going all macho on congressional Republicans on a 39% presidential approval rating doesn't exactly sound as a recipe for success.

Glenn Thompson was a "no" according to the count on CBS, The Hill and Washington Post, but not according to the New York Times, CNN, NBC, and NPR.

"Hell no" Republican Thomas Massie seems to be a bit pissed about pressure from the White House as he twitters:

Timing of the actual voting itself should be around 4-5 PM as of right now.

CNN.com posted 15 minutes ago that the vote is to be expected around 5:00 or 6:00 p.m.

After moving Davidson from "no" to "unclear" and putting Frelinghuysen in the "no" camp instead, The Hill still lists 34 firm no votes, and 7 lean/likely no votes.

The Washington Post has updated their whip list now too.

There are now 20 representatives listed who have moved to "yes", after originally indicating that they opposed the bill.

This notwithstanding, there are still 32 firm "no" votes and 17 lean "no" votes.

It seems like they're losing "yes" votes at a faster rate than they're winning them.

Donald Trump told them "take it or leave it", and they decided to leave it.
