If Donald Trump went into the legal profession rather than in the business field, how well would he have done and what would the timeline look like today?

He'd have been disbarred years ago.

Implying that would of stopped him from still practicing law

Trump would be the Dr. Nick Riviera of the law profession

The legal cartel would never allow for that. All knees must bow and all wallets must open or else they crush you. They can do that since they own the judges and most of the legislators.

Does he have the temperament for law?

And if he managed not to get disbarred, he'd be an ambulance chaser.

that's what I was thinking too.  One of those guys yelling at the camera at 3am, asking if you've been in an accident that wasn't your fault, maybe you fell on the ice at Wal Mart, or took a drug with a side affect.  Even family members of the victim can call!

Until Bates v. State Bar of Arizona in 1972, advertising was illegal for lawyers. After that, state bars gradually began repealing their restrictions on where and how lawyers could put their faces and firms. There was a tremendous first mover advantage for the lawyers and firms which started widespread advertising once it opened. Trump would have been around 30 when New York opened; young but with a few years of practice to establish himself.

If Donald Trump understands nothing else, he understands the value of advertising himself and knows how to get himself in the media. New York is a huge market and Trump would have had the resources (from his father) to LEAP at that opportunity once it started. I imagine Trump would be an enormously wealthy and well known lawyer, seen on TV and every bus in New York and seen in the courtroom practically never. Its almost a tailor-made job for him.

I have doubts he would even be able to finish law school or pass the bar exam...

He's not an idiot, or if he is, then it must take a bigger idiot to lose to him.

Why? Is it because of his temperament and behavior?

I'd imagine Trump as a Saul Goodman-type lawyer.

Professionalism concerns. Things like his inability to not exaggerate, his occasional rude, personal, and insulting language, his overuse of theatrics, and the likelihood that he would undermine his client/violate ethical rules regarding disclosures to the media. That and I could see him bad mouth the bar which shouldn't be an issue, but they can often be petty tyrants.

What kind of high profile trial case might he use to get publicity?
