I'm not a fan of the shift towards a larger defense budget and more militarist economy.

It's the single most important aspect of our nation's social safety net.

In other news, gays didn't do very well in previous eras. Heck we were labeled mentally ill until the 1970's.

Ignoring that im trans.

1964-1966 - Optimism about the War on Poverty

1993-2000 - This period lead to the socially liberal atmosphere of 2011-2016. While it wasnt better than the latter there was a more hands off approach to social issues than the period before which lead to the start of a wider acceptance of LGBT especially in the media.

2011-2016 - Lots of progress in LGBT issues and rights.

Legitimate question: can you explain what Gamergate was to me in extremely simple terms and how I would have completely missed its existence in 2014?  And why should I care about it today?  Anything I read about it just confuses me more.

Me too.

1954-1972

Thurgood Marshall ERA- from Attny at the Brown v Board of Education and got Justice Hugo Black to change his mind about the Crt when Warren was on SCOTUS to Roe V Wade decision when Harry Blackmun was the swing vote on that case.

This is the Johnson-Earl Warren CrT

The 1980s. Big cuts to the redistributive state, and winning the Cold War with bipartisan hatred of all things communist.

1828-1853 were the best days in the history of American politics. Also, 1920-1927 was very good, as was the Cleveland administration.

may i, just out of curiousity, ask what your opinion of Abe Lincoln would be?

-He was unreasonable on the most important matters. The fact he was dealing with unreasonable people does not excuse that. Generally, I find him too big-government for my taste (see my signature). He also falsely claimed he'd support the Dred Scott ruling before it was revealed to be the manifest abuse of judicial power that it was.
