This isn't primarily about being an Independent politically, but rather personally:

* are you living on your own ?
* do you own the apartment/house ?
* do you have enough money to pay for it ?
* do you have enough money to pay for everything else ?
* do you organize everything that concerns you on your own ?
* are you on welfare ?
* do you have enough money saved for important purchases like cars, or a vacation ?
* or are you indebted ?
* do you owe money to someone who can take advantage of you ?
* do you have children or live alone ?
* do you own a car ?
* do you know how to spend 2 weeks out in the wilderness and know how to survive ?
* do you know how to hunt and kill game ?
* are you able to make fire from scratch ?
* have you ever voted for a political independent candidate ?
* do you live in a country that provides full freedom of speech and doesn't violate basic human rights ?

There are many other criteria, if you want then choose your own and post them.

I'd rate myself a 9 on this scale.

I've got a half paid off mortgage, 3 adult children and 1 almost adult child, a wife, an ex-wife, nobody (outside the house) gives me money to assist.  If the weather was nice and I had some basic tools, yeah I could probably survive for a few weeks outside...if the weather is ass, or I'm hurt or naked then I'll likely die if not rescued.  I can hunt, if armed.

But I hate living alone, and I'm old enough to know I need a woman around for companionship.  Obviously I could live alone though, I have before and survived.  There is something romantic AND terrifying about living alone to me though, just don't like it.

I voted 7, although before I moved to Florida I would say an 8 would have been good.

What does being politically independent have to do with being personally independent?

Well I live with my partner, but otherwise I guess I rate a 10, including being fit and healthy for the moment. (Obviously the poll was put up by someone wet behind the ears, since it does not mention health. If you're sick you or physically challenged in major way, you are not independent at all.) May I use my rather total freedom wisely. I'm trying to. Smiley

About 7 (maybe 8?), but I wouldn't mind falling down to about a 3 for a lovely woman who I could provide "wifely duties" in exchange for not having to worry about a lot of things.

About a 3. Without politics a 1 or 2. I live with my parents (obviously), am generally socially awkward and don't like dealing with important things on my own.

* are you living on your own ? Yes
* do you own the apartment/house ? No
* do you have enough money to pay for it ? Yes
* do you have enough money to pay for everything else ? Yes
* do you organize everything that concerns you on your own ? Terribly, but yes.
* are you on welfare ? No.
* do you have enough money saved for important purchases like cars, or a vacation ? No.
* or are you indebted ? No.
* do you owe money to someone who can take advantage of you ? What? God no.
* do you have children or live alone ? Alone.
* do you own a car ? No.
* do you know how to spend 2 weeks out in the wilderness and know how to survive ? What? No.
* do you know how to hunt and kill game ? lolno
* are you able to make fire from scratch ? No
* have you ever voted for a political independent candidate ? No, but I might soon (though I won't like it). This is kind of a silly question for a European, though.
* do you live in a country that provides full freedom of speech and doesn't violate basic human rights? No, because no country on Earth meets this definition.

8/14. I guess that's a 6?

10.

Voted 10 but that's probably wishful thinking.  Probably I should vote for 1 or 2.  I can't answer yes to all your questions (I'm not on welfare, for example), and I'm not sure what I'd do if a guy with a gun entered the subway and demanded everyone's money--like the restaurant scene in Pulp Fiction when Jules and vince meet Honey Bunny and Tom Roth--but I pay my bills on time, I do not borrow or lend omenty, the gods leave me alone, and I leave them alone, so I figure I'm about as independent as one can be.  Still, I have to answer to my wife and my son.  Realistically I was probably a 10 till I was 37 years old, but then I was married and had a child.  After that I became a 1 or maybe a 2 at best.

* are you living on your own ? Yes
* do you own the apartment/house ? No, College Dorm - Roommate moved out to Student-Teach
* do you have enough money to pay for it ? No, my parents/relatives help with the costs of college, and I also have student loans (<$20k principle)
* do you have enough money to pay for everything else ? I don't pay my own cell phone bill or health insurance, but other than that - Yes
* do you organize everything that concerns you on your own ? I don't view any decision I make as completely on my own - even if other people don't help, god still does
* are you on welfare ? No
* do you have enough money saved for important purchases like cars, or a vacation ? Vacation - Perhaps a road trip, but not to fly anywhere. To buy a new car - No
* or are you indebted ? I have student loans, so Yes.
* do you owe money to someone who can take advantage of you ? Well the student loan company is pretty powerless as long as I'm in college, and currently there isn't anything on my credit card - so No.
* do you have children or live alone ? live alone (as mentioned above)
* do you own a car ? Yes, although it used to be my father's
* do you know how to spend 2 weeks out in the wilderness and know how to survive ? No
* do you know how to hunt and kill game ? No, but assuming I have access to equipment I know how to fish
* are you able to make fire from scratch ? Maybe with Flint - but definitely couldn't get two random sticks/rocks to work.
* have you ever voted for a political independent candidate ? I sometimes write in random people I know for random county offices where it's like "choose 6" but only 3 candidates are listed - I've probably written in an independent at some point. Also, if it counts, I voted for Johnson.
* do you live in a country that provides full freedom of speech and doesn't violate basic human rights ? Does the U.S. still have this under Trump? If we do, then Yes.

What does being politically independent have to do with being personally independent?

Clearly if you vote for a partisan candidate then you depend on the party to make up all your views for you./s

Hontely, I give myself a 9.

* do you own the apartment/house ? We rent one yes; but looking for one to buy.
* do you have enough money to pay for it ? Yes
* do you have enough money to pay for everything else ? Yes
* do you organize everything that concerns you on your own ? Yes, together with my girlfriend.
* are you on welfare ? Nope.
* do you have enough money saved for important purchases like cars, or a vacation ? The only debt I have is to my father for our car, but that is paid down soon. I never missed to pay a bill at all.
* or are you indebted ? Only a small loan to my father for our car.
* do you owe money to someone who can take advantage of you ? No
* do you have children or live alone ? With my girlfriend
* do you own a car ? Yes
* do you know how to spend 2 weeks out in the wilderness and know how to survive ? No idea.
* have you ever voted for a political independent candidate ? Yes, in a mayoral election.
* do you live in a country that provides full freedom of speech and doesn't violate basic human rights? Yes, absolutely.

* are you living on your own? Nope, parents' house.
* do you own the apartment/house? Nope.
* do you have enough money to pay for it? No.
* do you have enough money to pay for everything else? Maybe for a month.
* do you organize everything that concerns you on your own? Some of it. I'd say half.
* are you on welfare? No, but, well... living with parents is pretty much welfare.
* do you have enough money saved for important purchases like cars, or a vacation? Not at all.
* or are you indebted? No, but my parents are.
* do you owe money to someone who can take advantage of you? No.
* do you have children or live alone? No, and no.
* do you own a car? No.
* do you know how to spend 2 weeks out in the wilderness and know how to survive? Almost certainly no.
* do you know how to hunt and kill game? Nope.
* are you able to make fire from scratch? Nein.
* have you ever voted for a political independent candidate? Didn't vote yet since I only turned 18 this year, but I supported some.
* do you live in a country that provides full freedom of speech and doesn't violate basic human rights? Mostly yes.

All things considered, I'd give myself a 1. Maybe a 2.

9 for me since I am sadly still in debt (which mostly came from my wife). But we are trying hard to be debt-free, paying out about $2,000 per month in principal and interest.
