During the 2008 Republican primaries, the attacks especially opposed McCain vs Romney and Romney vs Huckabee. But there was no major or none attacks between John McCain and Mike Huckabee.

Why did John McCain and Mike Huckabee avoided to attack each other while they, each on their own, attacked Mitt Romney?

The former is because Romney was the only McCain opponent who could plausibly win the nomination. The latter is because Romney is an icky Morman.
