And what would that electoral map have looked like?  And how much of the popular vote would these candidates win?  How would the results have deferred from the 2000 election had John McCain decided to run as an independent presidential candidate?

I suspect McCain would have played more of a spoiler than Nader did, but probably wouldn't have carried any states due to a lack of party backing.   Still, he is a solid conservative, and most of the support he got would have been drawn off of Bush.   He would probably have more of an impact on the more libertarian leaning Repbulican states (particularly the southwest, but also some in the rust belt) and far less impact amidst social conservative regions (the deep south -minus parts of Florida).  The electorial vote would probably be more heavily swung than the popular vote.

Gore - 45% 327 EVs
Bush - 40% 211 EVs
McCain 14% 0 EVs
Nader 1% 0 evS
