Eharding is banned, permanently, so here's the standard opinion poll.

What was he banned for?

Sure, I found them annoying. But not as annoying as others who are not banned. He seemed more confused and misguided.

Still can't get my head around how much of his style was trolling but if it was ...then he has trolled on several boards and personal sites too. Hard to believe, that such a person could exist, not cause i detest his views (i absolutely disagree with a lot of them), but cause i don't understand how such a set of contradicting values could exist in one person at the same time.

Wouldn't have banned him for the reasons which were used but there surely would have been a plausible case to be made.

I think it's odd that he's such a flashpoint. At this point, the whole controversy around him reminds me of bottlegate. Regardless of whether his ban was justified, I think both his supporters and the mods are exacerbating the problem. His supporters by trying to make him some noble martyr and the mods by not clearly communicating the thinking behind their decisions, and the process by which they were made.

Big league HP.

But, personally, I don't think he'd have been a problem if he would just have stopped posting 50-100 (literally) times a day and often derailing threads, and maybe learn a little social graces. He had this odd need to spend incredible amounts of time on this forum, responding to every little remark sent his way.

Other than that, while I think his views are ridiculous, so are the views of people like EnglishPete and Klartext, yet they manage not to disrupt the forum, in part by not spamming the place.

If Eharding was a Democrat, he wouldn't have been banned so quickly. There isn't a doubt in my mind that this was, at least in part, an ideological ban.

A person who literally believes in White Supremacy and openly defends it is a pretty bad person.

Yeah, because Democrats typically aren't white supremacists, at least not recently.

HP because of his ideas. His twitter bio says "Obama created ISIS -this isn't partisan!". I swear.

I can't reasonably complain about how he spam-posts though because I'm as bad if not worse.

I'm still laughing at "Marginal Counterrevolution." His ban deprives the forum of an amusing character and a distinctive point of view, that much is clear.

He was overly aggressive toward certain people and that needed to stop, but I can't help but acknowledge his passing with an un-ironic cry of "So much for the tolerant uselectionatlas.org!"

I get that most posters here with whom I am usually like-minded disagree, but I say this in complete sincerity: Trump's election has encouraged a lot of liberals, a lot of leftists, and even many people in the center to crawl even further into bubbles of epistemic closure and intolerance for disagreement. This isn't healthy, and it's harmful to ability to understand politics and political arguments.

Note that unlike some, I don't think that we need to define hate speech downward to reflect post-Trump realities or w/e - I'm just saying that getting more restrictive is a mistake, and, increasingly, that is what I see people doing.

I'm all for reaching out to people with different political views in real life, and am deliberately trying to do so, but this obviously doesn't work when you're dealing with internet trolls. Internet discussion, especially with people as ridiculously abrasive and deranged as Eharding, never achieves any mutual understanding. If anything, it tends to make people hate each other more.

Anyway, he was the worst and this is a common sense decision that a serious moderation team would have taken long ago.
