1. Don't cite Slate please in academic discussion.
2. The videos in the debate were wording issues, meant to sound moderate when the position really was not and/or flip flops depending on how you take it.  A flop is not a lie; it is a flop.

Here you go.

Oh, wait. I forgot that the only sources you accept are Breitbart and Infowars.

I imagine Ted Cruz is really likable if you're a semi-condescending member of your local College Republicans group. Everyone else hates him and everyone like him.

And he lied about Ben Carson during the Iowa caucuses while Carson did not drop out, which helped him to get votes away from Carson. No wonder that we call him Lyin' Ted.

In 2014, John Cornyn only got 59% of the vote in his primary, where the other candidates were Steve Stockman and a bunch of randos.

It is not outside the realm of possibility that Cruz could get forced into a runoff in his primary next year. He'd still win it, but he'd have to spend more time and more money doing so.

And if there isn't a "clean repeal" of the ACA, I could see some Tea Party dead-ender running as an independent and saying that Cruz broke his promise, maybe getting 3-5% of the GE vote.

So there's now talk of Cruz replacing Sessions as Attorney General.  If that should occur, what happens in the special election to replace Cruz?

Given that Ted Cruz is the most hated person among his senate colleagues, is there any way folks like Lindsey Graham or moderate GOP senators like Flake could endorse and fundraise for O'Rourke? I mean these guys have to actually have at least one weekly sit down lunch with Cruz so after a few years they'd probably prefer him gone. Besides I heard O'Rourke is a pretty friendly and nice guy. Who wouldn't want to work with him instead of Ted Cruz?

I know if I was a Democratic senator and I hated my own Party colleague I'd immediately start fundraising for his nice guy easygoing opponent even if they were a Republican.
LOL no, partisanship is too strong and this could even be the difference between keeping the majority (and losing their committee/subcommittee chairmanships if they have them) and making Schumer Majority Leader and making things worse for them policy wise. And don't be fooled, O'Rourke is very liberal.

Would they even hold a special election? Only a little over a year until 2018 midterms; I think the governor would appoint someone and the election would go on as normally scheduled.

Same dude, Hurd is by far the best it gets around realistic holders of this seat in the future. I think he would be a Senator I at least would not be embarrassed to be his constituent.

You know in your heart he'd almost certainly pick some asshole like Joe Barton or Lamar Smith.

Beto O'Rourke can't win TX.

The only Texas Democrats that can win are Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich (yes, he can win) or Bill White, the son of former Texas Gov. Bill White.

O'Rourke will lose to Cruz by 10-20 points, but he will overperform Wendy Davis, and maybe even Paul Sadler.
