I was actually going to name 1876 as one of the worst, it was the first that sprang to my mind.
Another worst would be 1796 and 1800, in that both Adams and Jefferson were really flawed.
A lot of the elections between Jackson and Lincoln, and Lincoln and Roosevelt, would probably count too.

I'd say 1992 is probably one of the best, with all sides being good candidates.
Same with '76, both two good candidates.
