Atlas needs avatar discipline

I don't know why I even remember what avatars I see (I have a knack for cramming my brain with useless information), but I've noticed a bunch of people keep alternating back and forth between avatars. Democrat -> Socialist -> Democrat, Democrat -> Republican, Democrat -> Independent -> Democrat, and it goes on and on like that. Make up your mind peoples!

Now, YOU know who you are. For now I will not be naming names, but if this simply SCANDALOUS behavior keeps up, I will have to spill the beans and hijinks will ensue.

All my avatar changes have been for a specific reason having to do with politics, and I don't plan on changing it again.

I will just say that I've been L-GA since I joined, with the exception of R-KY and L-NM solidarity avatars with presidential candidates over the course of a day or two.

     Other than two instances I changed my avatar briefly back in 2008, I have only used my avatar to reflect my actual party.

Haha, in theory I'm obviously fine with people using the avatar feature however they want ... but it's nothing short of a DAMN shame that people don't use this cool feature to convey SOME sort of meaning about themselves or their politics.

I have been I-TX my whole time on Atlas bar 2 days or so I was I-KS.

I have been an independent voter.  I was originally a blue avatar (R) because I'm a registered Republican in a place where there is party registration and there is virtually no local Democratic Party.  I switched for a while to Independent, as in recent years, I have voted for more Democrats than Republicans, but I switched back to a blue avatar because of my intent to support Trump, and because of my disgust for Hillary Clinton.

Due to personal issues, I am likely to support the Democratic candidate for Governor of Florida next year, and may well vote for Bill Nelson.  I was also, back in 1975, the youngest member ever of my county's Democratic committee, and I still view myself, internally, as something of a Democrat (albeit a socially conservative Democrat who is pro-labor). 

So what avatar fits me best?  I picked blue because that's the primary I'll vote in.  Republicans have to appeal to me if they want to be nominated.  In that sense, the most immediate and real sense for both myself and candidates, I'm a Republican.

I agree. Also worth pointing out that like 90% of green avatars here are more partisan/hackish than their blue and red counterparts. Oh, and 90%+ of Socialist avatars are generic Democrats or liberals.

Well I can relate I guess, I'm an anti-Republican partisan hack, and have had a green avatar my entire time on Atlas.

I see nothing wrong with an April Fool's flip or honoring someone (such as all he D-DE ones when Beau Biden died, or the D-GA when Carter was diagnosed,etc.)

That said, I prefer to let the state I'm physically in (I believe that has meant CA, VA in college, and UT and NC during various trips, and next week, it'll be ID) and the party from which I'm actually registered dictate my choice (That's Democratic for now, but that won't last long if they nominate Booker and keep Pelosi even past 2020.

Oh, the timing of my post was coincidental. What I was referring to was the constant avatar flipping I see from some users prior to the 1st. It was often enough where I was wondering if it was some bug with the forum or if people were really hopping around like that lol

My R-IL avatar is purely artifact, but (excepting a few weeks in May 2016) I've had it since December 2009, and when I used the literally true I-OH avatar in May 2016 people on the forum seemed not to recognize me; I switched back to celebrate Mark Kirk advocating an anti-Trump vote.

I've been thinking about switching to I-OH for a while, since I've been living in Ohio continuously since 2005, and an "R" part of the avatar is no longer really truthful, since as the parties and personalities have drifted I've become more of a swing voter, if probably still R-tilting.
