In 1971, an idea was floated in certain conservative circles that in response to Spiro Agnew's flagging poll numbers, Nixon should have asked Ronald Reagan to accept the vice presidential nomination in 1972. Reagan, of course, refused but had he accepted, he would have become president in '74.

So: how would an incumbent President Reagan have done against Carter in 1976? Discuss with maps.
