He has a slight case of Akin syndrome.

Polarization cuts both ways, and so far the Dem base seems far more energized than the GOP one. ND is far more elastic than AL and has much more recent history of Dems winning statewide.

I see how and why she wins in ND beyond political reasons.

She's really endearing. Combined with her votes, it's easy to see why she has a 55% approval rating.

Likely D? I think that might be too optimistic, since internals Campbell have him up, but Cramer seemed like a stronger candidate than Campbell.

So I'll assume Heitkamp was ahead by double digits in his internals?

Guess they couldn't recruit a candidate with real teeth and now they're stuck with Campbell.

Campbell is loaded, so he can make this a race, but it’s telling that Mitch and co. were shopping for an alternative

A shame about Cramer he was definitely the ideal candidate for Heitkamp to beat, gaffe prone and a voting record to attack. The Campbell guy is basically a Generic R.

Thomas O'Neill, Air Force vet and anti-immigration candidate, is running

Former NDGOP chairman Gary Emineth is considering a run

And apparently, even Rob Port (!) doesn't quite share King Lear's optimism, to say the least

Why does everyone here seem to underestimate Heitkamp so much?
and how many of these same people thought she had no chance of winning in 2012?
