This would probably preclude a McMullin run, as some have speculated, no?

Pretty ridiculous how we even see stuff about this. Hatch has been in the Senate since 1976, and he is now 83 years old. Another term would put him over 90. At what point is he going to retire and give other, younger politicians a shot? Why does he have to stick around in public office until he literally dies? People like this are extraordinarily frustrating.

On top of that, note the irony from this very old Hatch quote:

Even though I do not actively participate in the LDS Church anymore I do believe this man should have been president and I do not regret voting for him. Especially with hindsight.

Perhaps Trump is god's punishment to the United States for rejecting Mitt Romney.

But a Senate Run? hahahahah time for new blood.

I'd support this. In hindsight, we probably would have been better off with Mitt winning in '12.

I imagine he wouldn't stick around forever, either. He'd be a 71 year old incumbent

Mitt Romney would be a great Senator and an awesome representation of Utah, as well as an invaluable addition to the Republican caucus ... so I say hell yeah.

My admiration for Romney has only grown since the orange menace. I was actively rooting for Trump to offer Romney Secretary of State and was legitimately disappointed when he didn't get it. I hate Orrin Hatch, and maybe McMullin has eyes on the House, so I'm not opposed to Senator Romney.

I'd be okay with Romney in a Utah context. It's in Massachusetts, or nationwide, that I deeply dislike him.

You may not like Romney's politics but you have to respect him as a good and decent human being. The country needs more Romneys

if Romney runs, he's a shoe-in. That being said, I don't know if Romney understands what he's getting into - he's spent his whole life as an executive where he dictates the pace of things. The Senate is a very very very slow body. I can't imagine Romney as a lifer in the Senate.

As a Democrat who fully supported Obama in 2012, I know we're never getting UT (especially since our [literally] only plausible path has been negated by Huntsman's nomination as Russian Ambassador) so I'm a-ok w/ an (anti-Trump) Senator Romney

I wouldn't count on Mr. Romney as reliably anti-Trump.

Not my preferred candidate, but I'll support almost anyone to get Hatch out. I will endorse Romney if he is our only hope, but for now I'll keep holding out for McAdams, Matheson, or McMullin.

Why, dude? Being a senator sucks compared to what you could be doing for the next six years.

He'd be better than McMullin(who I don't think could win the primary anyway) But I'm not sure why he'd want it. Wasn't one of his sons considering it some years back? If any of them want a political career this seems like a good option.

Well, I'm just not sure Romney's got that much life left in him. I mean, the man will be nearly 72 at the start of the next congress. Maybe he's got 2, maaaaaybe 3 terms in him.

Apparently Romney's son is considering a run for Utah Governor in 2020. It is possible that Mitt runs for Senate in 2018 and wins, with his son running for governor in 2020 and winning that.

Hmm. I'd think the other way would work better. And I'd really favor that, just to have Mitt tie with Houston for being the governor of two separate states. Tongue

Though I suppose Romney could serve for one term and keep the seat warm for his son for after he served one term as governor.

I'd be on board for a Senator Romney.
