Now this is a bit of a weird topic, but anymore I feel like our government isn't a "problem" its the people it's governing. Sincerely lets just take a second to look (from a none biased view) at how the people rioted over Hillary's loss. They damaged buildings, stole, threatened people for their beliefs/preferences in the presidential cantidate, and even go off the handle to personally attack people who disagree with them. Lets also look at the Trump supporters, assuming every muslim is a terrorist, personally attacking dems/liberals, and are so wrapped up in their beliefs (dems too). Seriously how can our country do anything in this state? Its so messed up that people will auto-turn down a bill that doesn't support their party's best views. If Trump makes a bill that somewhat agrees with dems and repubs but is fantastic for the people it should be PASSED! (not saying it is or anything like that its an example) But sincerely if people are just going around uneducated, or simply so biased they don't follow their beliefs but their party what good is America's government? It's really killing us, and I'm curious how you guys n gals feel on this.

Yes, the government is ultimately corrupt because the people are corrupt. The politicians are only so extreme because they are under pressure from the people to be that extreme.

The best thing that can happen to the USA would be as follows:

When the next Supreme Court justice retires or dies, Trump nominates Merrick Garland as a show of goodwill. Garland goes through hearings and doesn't disqualify himself. Mitch McConnell calls the vote. Garland is confirmed. Then the Senate changes the rules back so all judicial appointments that must go through the Senate are again subject to a filibuster and cloture takes 60 votes.

This will never happen, of course.

Endure a nationwide wide crisis the likes of which we haven't seen since WWII, the civil war, and the American revolution.

That's the only way you're gonna rebuild people's trust in the institutions and in our government. A full scale crisis is really the only way to get Americans to become united again.

Another suggestion is campaign finance reform to have public financing of elections. Also, this is controversial, but compulsory voting, to include more people in the political system. The two party system is also part of the problem, maybe the EC can become a proportional popular vote runoff system and the House can elect representatives based on proportional representation to increase third party representation and make them more than a wasted vote. I'm not sure if that would reduce polarization or just divide people into more factions, but it could make politics more complex that things like Democrats good, Republicans bad, no matter what.

People need to stop getting their news and stop making their political opinions of headlines from social media.

Another is to get rid of winner take all in electoral college and move to proportional awarding of

Option one would definitely help. I am partial to less government, so I selected that also. Otherwise these are specific ideas that won't change much. The rot is cultural as much as it is political, and reforming the institutions won't cure it.

if we do move to proportional allocation, the number of representatives in the EC needs to be dramatically increased

We need to get rid of politicians who only think about getting reelected, not about what is good for the country as a whole.

We need to start thinking about what we can do to help all of us get ahead.

We need universal health care so that every citizen doesn't have to worry about how they are going to pay for their health care. A healthy citizen is a productive one. We also need low-cost education. The way things are going now, people can't afford college and that makes for a dumbing down of our country. We need to make rules against big banks and big corporations taking the low greed road all the time, especially the pharmaceutical industry. They keep people hooked on drugs for the profit. Unconscionable.

We need to become more people-friendly and take care of our citizens. Politics is just an extension of how we view the value of humanity. Raise our standards and the standards of people who enter politics will automatically be raised.

Repeal Obamacare, abolish the IRS, move the embassy to Jerusalem, defund Planned Parenthood, build the wall, end sanctuary cities, shred the Iran deal.

Just some questions:

1. Repeal Obamacare and replace with what? Are you going to leave people without a safety net?

2. By abolishing the IRS, what would you replace it with?

3. Are you willing to spend billions on building a wall when there is technology we could use that would be more effective in today's modern world? Walls come crumbling down in time.

What we do is we start over.  Almost from scratch.

This obviously isn't tenable but boy doesn't it sound good.

None of those better America, especially moving the embassy to Jerusalem, which if anything would put more Americans at risk overseas as it would prove we're blindly taking sides.

His ideas can work. Of course feudal society thrived for centuries. It was a nightmare for the peons who worked as their lords and masters demanded solely to wear rags, eat victuals, and get some minimal protection from the elements. If they failed to meet those demands, they starved or went underground, perhaps as highwaymen or witches. Punishment for violating the rules of feudal life could include burning at the stake or breaking at the wheel.

In a feudal society, the property owners are responsible for defending their estates on the assumption that if they lose the war the princes of another nation will take over the estates.  Peasants simply exchange one set of masters for another.

The proposed wall against Mexico is... everything that could be wrong. Electronic detection  of illegal border-crossers*  will be less costly, less disruptive, and less environmentally-destructive. The wall will provide graft to contractors connected to the President, which of course may be a huge boon to the President and his Party, as if a majority of Americans will want that.

*some of whom are smuggling drugs and fleeing law enforcement, and they really need to be caught and subjected to legal consequences for crimes for which a border crossing is the least of offenses.

Kill the filibuster. It degrades the accountability of the parties, and the ability to effect change, rather than being gridlocked into the status quo, in a most unacceptable way to me. The most popular option that forumites have chosen is the sort of thing that one wishes would happen, but making it happen is really not in the cards as a practical matter, or at least extremely difficult to make happen. Killing the filibuster is easy, if we can get a majority of the Senate to go there.

Maybe a lot of WWC have romantic notions about that. Why a lot of AltRights have a fixation on anime/Disney? Santander wants a king so there is at least obe like this...
