Yes, though she is likely to face a tough primary with Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox. Anyways I doubt Doug Jones would run or win even if he ran.

I prefer Maddox to Cobb, though Richard Lindsey would be better than either.

Jim Folsom, Jr. is one of the most unlucky politicians I can think of. After unseating Donald Stewart in 1980 primary he was expected to be the next U.S. Senator from Alabama, just to narrowly lose to Jeremiah Denton, riding on a Republican wave. In 1994 he was favored to win a gubernatorial term on his own, with quite good rantings, but was swept (narrowly again) by another GOP wave. And his career ended in 2010 lt. gubernatorial loss, yet another Republican wave year.

The best we can expect from Alabama's Republican party now, IMHO. A Southern lady and former Democrat)))))

Other than Cavanaugh (who already has) are any of the primary contestants expected to drop?

Similarly, is there any chance that Ivey doesn't steamroll everyone? Barring any developments with her health, ofc.

Seems likely that, at a minimum, McMillan and Zeigler, will be reasonably competitive.

Nah it'll be a tough fight between her and Tommy Battle.

If Todd Strange, Tommy Battle, Sandy Stimpson, John McMillon, Scott Dawson, and Bill Hightower all run/stay in against Ivey, what will the results look like?

Unemployment in Alabama has dropped 1.6pp since Ivey took office, from 5.4 to 3.8:

So short of being linked to Bentley (which probably won't hurt her like it did Strange) I doubt Ivey's re-election odds are in that bad of shape.

Compared to Moore and Bentley, Ivey is utterly inoffensive. I'd hoped that maybe the gubernatorial race might be competitive, but I don't see that happening with Ivey already fashioning a sterling reputation and shoring up the bases for the primary.

Any locals can describe how a Cobb v. Maddox primary would look like? I'm interested in volunteering there next year as I actually may be in Alabama for a fellowship.

Also how would you describe them ideologically or at least on the political spectrum?

I'd say both are pretty moderate, but I know Maddox is definitely in the center. I don't know much about Cobb, nor can I find much about her.

As for the primary, I see Maddox coming out on top, but it's relatively slim.

For Cobb vs Maddox, it would be nice if one of them ran for Governor and the other ran for some other statewide office like Attorney General or Secretary of State.  (I see Walt Maddox isn't a lawyer, I thought he was.)

Of course, this is what I'm referring to above:
