This was somewhat surprising, but the turnout was disappointing for Black Lives Matter activists. Republican mayor James Knowles III won reelection on April 4, defeating Democrat Ella Jones.

As you may remember, Ferguson, Mo. is the place where Michael Brown was shot and killed by a white police officer in what many see as racial bias and police brutality.

Sounds like people in Ferguson are disillusioned. I don't blame them.

The margin was 12 points (56%-44%).

If they want changes, they should demand more from Mayor Knowles.

It's not like the hordes of media and political agitators who have flooded the city have endeared themselves to the local population

Of course voter turnout was low; it was a mayoral election in April, like the city of St. Louis, where only 58,303 valid, countable votes were cast at the same time. This only 5 months after 132,487 votes were cast for President.

Sounds like people in Ferguson are disillusioned. I don't blame them.

The turnout among black voters in the St. Louis area dropped quite a lot even in Nov. 2016 compared to Nov. 2012. In State Representative District 76 -- which has the highest percent of black population in the whole state of Missouri: over 97% black -- the drop from Nov. 2012 to Nov. 2016 was almost 28%. That's a lot of disillusionment.

Does anyone have a racial breakdown of voters who turned out last week?

Yup..  my home town re-elected James Knowles. I am no longer in that jurisdiction so could not participate in that election.

I was not really surprised to be honest.
