The written document that was found at the scene starts with "In the name of Allah ..." and further blames the German military's involvement against the IS by bombing them with Tornado planes:

Actually, there now seems to be a second letter claiming responsiblity for the attack. This time from left-wing extremists:

This whole affair is downright bizarre and will probably the source for many conspiracy theories in the years to come.

Update: The authorities are considering the possibility that both letters claiming responsibility are in fact fakes.

One suspect with "Islamist background" has been arrested.

The letter clamining responsibility in the name left-wing extremists is almost certainly considered a fake, possibly fabricated by right-wing extremists.

I'm surprised that no one is considering the obvious.  The situation is such that state-sponsored terrorism has to be considered a possibility.  What else can you expect when the leader of that state is a long-time member of a criminal cartel long interested in controlling sports?  It's sad to say, but the possibility that this was intended to affect the game itself rather than society at large must be considered.

Of course, should the evidence support this theory, I have no doubt that despite this despot's devoted dragoons Germany could simply invoke Article 5 and get help from the forces of one of NATO's newer members in dealing with this terror threat.

Turns out... the Islamist who was arrested yesterday was arrested because he's a member of ISIS, but he has in fact no connection to the Borussia Dortmund bombing.

And there are still some doubts over the authenticity of the letter claiming responsiblity for the attack in the name of ISIS.

Authorities aren't ruling out the possibility that either right-wing extremists, organized crime, or football hooligans were the real perpetrators.

So, the mystery continues!

Interesting new development ... The reason for the attack was stock market greed:

Trying to rig the market by committing a terrorist attack was basically a plot element from the James Bond film Casino Royale IIRC.

Clearly, most of these attacks are Lone Wolf attacks. Each and every one alienates the religion of Islam globally, and does no good for the ISIS cause.

ISIS are so stupid they cannot fart and chew gum at the same time.

Yeah, but the police authorities' assessment that the ISIS letter is possibly a fake turned out to be true now, didn't it?

Yes, it most certainly is.

(In the original novel, Le Chiffre is using the money of the Communist union he is treasurer of to get involved in the sex trade and loses most of it when brothels are banned in France)
