I feel like among my friends, particularly my liberal friends, there's a certain soft spot for the British monarchy. That's not to say we're monarchists by any stretch, or that we want a king and queen here, just that we enjoy the quaint charm of our old oppressors. I'm guessing this isn't the case everywhere, though, and that more nationalist Americans associate them with the general backwardsness of Europe. Which is interesting, since I would guess there's a flipped political divide in Britain, with Tories generally being more approving of the monarchy and lefties seeing it as antiquated.

So, generally, how do you feel about them?

Not an American so voted for that option, but I have to say I agree with you about the British monarchy. It has a certain charm and it can help increase the moral and unity of British people.

Not an American, loathes it with a passion and wishes for its complete destruction (normal, sane, French).

All the best monarchs came before 1066 imo. The post-Norman invasion crew have largely been a mistake.

Although I'm not ANGRY or whatever about the monarchy, just I find the arguments in favour kind of baffling. "Preserving links to history"? That's the sort of logic a hoarder uses to justify why they keep three decades worth of daily newspapers in their living room.

I watched the Crown last week and all I kept thinking was that monarchies are really really dumb.

I like the monarchy, but I certainly do not want the US to come under the British crown again. But I would be kinda sad to see an independent Scotland get rid of the monarchy.

I feel in no way attached, but I enjoy media centered on its history. ex: The King's Speech, Netflix's The Crown.

Voted option 2. I wouldn't want a royal family in America and I don't follow news about the royal family, but I quite like them overall. They seem like good people and I can actually see some benefit from countries preserving a constitutional monarchy like the UK. If I was Canadian or Australian and given the chance, I'd vote to keep the monarchy, honestly.

I quite enjoy them and would vote in favor of a monarchy here, so I suppose I'd be considered a monarchist. To me with all the partisan rancor having a sort of neutral non political figure who is seen as "above it all' would do much to help much of the country come together. Not in this generation mind, but after a few generations have gotten used to living with a monarch I think it would become a cherished institution and sort of national pride.

Not an American and don't feel any "attachment" to the monarchy in the UK, but I sure think the UK is the "archetypical" monarchy and I absolutely hope this institution will continue to exist. Am more indifferent on the issue in the Netherlands, which means I tend to support the status-quo.

I do think it would be delusional for anybody to think that the U.S. political system is functioning better than the UK system.

I'm more or less indifferent.  At this point I think they are a fantastic PR vehicle for the UK.  It will be a rough day for the UK when Queen Elizabeth dies.  This is why I'd really hoped she would begin transferring powers and duties down the line and doing so very transparently and ritualistically so that when she does go the people will have gotten used to the idea a bit.

I mean, I'm sort of a monarchist, but I don't feel any attachment to the British one in particular.

I like them, but I am not a true monarchist. Diana, Princess of Wales, changed the British Royal Family however. She tried to modernize them, but Princes Charles and Philip were adamant not to change their personalities in front of the world stage.

Princes William and George will be the future of Britain's monarchy. It's the symbolism of the country, but they have become entertainment as well. Girls in the U.S. want to buy Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge's clothes.

Anyone else see irony in this being posted by someone with "Jacobin" in their name?

Not from the US, but I do have a soft spot for the British monarchy. Not for a second would I believe it would work in South or Latin America for more than obvious reasons (except perhaps for Brazil had the Empire not been overthrown), but I like them.
