I feel like among my friends, particularly my liberal friends, there's a certain soft spot for the British monarchy. That's not to say we're monarchists by any stretch, or that we want a king and queen here, just that we enjoy the quaint charm of our old oppressors. I'm guessing this isn't the case everywhere, though, and that more nationalist Americans associate them with the general backwardsness of Europe. Which is interesting, since I would guess there's a flipped political divide in Britain, with Tories generally being more approving of the monarchy and lefties seeing it as antiquated.

So, generally, how do you feel about them?
