In an earlier post to this forum I stated that one of my (political) heroes was Julian Assange (Edward Snowden is the other).

Several of you commented that Assange's status as an accused rapist should, at the very least, exclude him from hero status.

I couldn't agree more if in fact the allegations are true. I wish to state for the record that I have no tolerance for rape, sexual assault, rape apologism, or any type of abuse of women (the 49.65%) on the part of men (the 50.35%).

Having said that, I still believe (a) that Assange should not be considered guilty until proven guilty and that (b) even if guilty, I still believe his Wikileaks site performs a valuable public service. The sins of the man, in this case, would not negate the good of what he founded.

I hope this helps clear things up.

My main issue is that you labeled him a "Hero."
Your thread was titled "Heroes."
If your thread was titled something different, like "Who provides a valuable service to mankind," well then that would be a different view of the topic, altogether.

But how can anyone consider someone, anyone, a "Hero," if the individual is accused of allegations of sexual assault and rape, and who refuses to face authorities for such charges ?
Instead, he hides like the weasel that he is, under the protection of an outside embassy.

To be fair, the charges are highly technical and kinda obviously cooked up.

People seem to forget that the Russians aren't the only ones who play the bullsh**t game.

I can agree with this, as a possibility.
But the fact of the matter stands that the accusations are still there, and he refuses to face them.
If the accusations are bs and lack of credible evidence are not present, then he will (can be) exonerated.
Hell, if OJ can be cleared of murder, anything can happen.

Technical charges? You mean he isn't being accused of legitimate rape? You know, the kind you can't get pregnant from?

Don't be a 5 year old.

Yes. Thanks to prenatal sex selection, female infant abandonment, and dowry killings, among other things, males now outnumber females worldwide by about 50 million.

Is there any evidence that he actually did anything? Also isn't one of the allegations some silliness about lying about using a condom?

Even if the rape charge is completely false, Assange still deserves a life sentence.
