I wouldn't be surprised if there were some Langley-based shenanigans that helped this missile to its demise:

Apparently, the missile blew-up immediately after launch.
LOL.

I think the idea that they were testing a submarine launched missile is the big takeaway. In theory if they fully developed SLBM technology they could retain a "Second Strike" capability in the case of a nuclear conflict.

The thing is they intended for the test to be a success, but even though it failed the idea is they are still working for SLBM capability, which could be an even bigger game-changer than ICBMs.

I VERY seriously doubt their submarine technology is advanced to the point that it could "hide" from easy detection from the US (if it was almost anywhere in the waters around Korea).
With that being the case, any planned attack on NK would be to (easily) destroy the submarine first thing (or planned at the exact same time that other attacks would take place).

Hey, at least it actually got off the ground, unlike a test they did quite a few years back when the missile apparently fell over.

Just need a bit a work on the aeronautical engineering and they are nearly there.

I think it's time to unleash the Mad Dog.

Interesting. I would not be surprised by this either. For everyone laughing at North Korea's "ineptitude", keep in mind that this is a country that for many years was considered quite accomplished in missile technology. In fact, Benazir Bhutto personally exchanged Pakistani nuclear technology with North Korean missile technology back in the 90s.

If they had tech worth exchanging nuclear secrets for in the 90s, it would be foolish to underestimate them today. If they want an ICBM, they can will it into reality.

Two good points. Tech wise, NK is not there yet but they are getting there. Our subs could sink any and all of their noisy diesel subs if we wanted to or if it would prevent a NK SLBM launch. They are barely there in that arena and would try land launches first.

I wonder how many NK defense officials will be fed to the lions because of this failure.  RIP boys.
