I personally liked Bulbasaur the best. He seemed the cutest to me, and he does a heckuva good job for game progress. What say you, and why?

Always Squirtle. Although strategically bulbasaur is a better choice early in kanto.

Bulbasaur is strong against rock (brock) and water (misty) and neutral against electric (surge)
Charmander is weak against rock and water and neutral against electric
Squirtle is strong against rock, neutralish against water and weak against electric.

Squirtle is the dawg. But otherwise, Bulbasaur is the best choice for Kanto.
