This, but I think Australia will become a republic within my lifetime. There has always been resentment towards the monarchy in Australia, and it's perfectly normal for politicians to be openly republican nowadays.

Retaining an absent monarch, already stripped from all, even most theoretical, responsibilities simply does not, as a robot would say, compute.

Keep in mind that successive Governors-General of Australia have exhibited greater use of the reserve powers and royal perogative since Federation than the Monarch has since the early 19th century.

The British monarchy should be totally dissolved and all the commonwealths (Australia included) should establish their own republics.

John Stuart Mill once spoke of "that very frequent infirmity of English minds, which makes them take a preposterous pleasure in the assertion of a bad principle, when they are no longer bad enough to desire to carry it really into practice."

It seems the English have spread this disease everywhere they settled, aside from the US.
