It is hard to choose.

In one side of the Atlantic, we can find Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Doors, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Ramones, Metallica, Guns n Roses, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Strokes...

In the other side of the Atlantic, we can find Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Queen, Iron Maiden, Oasis, Blur, Radiohead, Franz Ferdinand...

I like most of the bands on both lists, but I have to give the edge to the UK.

UK wins because Elvis Costello and Van Morrison are enough to beat any country.

I voted for the U.S. to balance out the result, and also to remind you all not to forget two of the Greatest Bands: Talking Heads and Velvet Underground (granted VU had British influences via John Cale, but still)

It was invented in the US.  The best UK bands (at least the first couple generations of them) were just copying their favorite American artists.  The UK has way more than their fair share of bands and artist at the top of the list, so it's impossible to argue one is wrong to pick the UK here, I just think the birth of it and the huge influence American artists had on UK artists pushes it back towards the US.

Dude, we have the King...

Anyway, "per artist" goes to the UK (at least of the artists who were known in America), but overall ... probably a nice tie. Smiley

The U.S. U.K. rock music is too removed from the source, hence why the most overrated band from each decade has always come from the U.K. - The Beatles in the '60s, David Bowie in the '70s, The Smiths in the '80s, and Radiohead in the '90s.

In the 60's and 70's, the UK easily.

Apart from Jimi Hendrix, the UK had Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles.

But in the 80's and 90's, the USA took over. Van Halen, Guns 'n Roses, Metallica, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Slayer.

Even Def Leppard moved to the USA in an attempt to crack the market there.

So it swings around.

Adult Rock hey.

I always thought Bruce Springsteen was mid-life crisis rock.

The Jam, The Clash, Elvis Costello, The Who, Bowie, ELO, Tears for Fears, and The Zombies have to edge out Creedence, The Band, The Beach Boys, and The Talking Heads, love the American bands as I do.

1950-1960: USA
1960-1980: UK
1980-1995: USA
1995-2000: UK
2000-: tie

Since I consider that the 1960s and the 1970s were the best decades for the rock music, I voted for UK

This would be the correct answer if we were talking about woman singers of the 90s.
