Yay, Israeli elections!
Of course, this scenario (which to me is a desirable one, other than the ascension of Yair 'No Backbone' Lapid) would be nigh-impossible to achieve- I don't think Gantz is eligible to run, and Hatnuah is now a spent political force. Also, Labour kept Herzog Sad
Still, since this is pretty much an alternative universe (maybe the cooldown period for generals didn't pass as a law), I like it! The first scenario you suggested could be likely, though with Netanyahu leading Likud, I don't see the second happening. He and Lapid are two bloated egos. If Netanyahu were to be replaced at the head of Likud, I could see that party joining an already existing government though.
I think that the likeliest scenario would be a YA-HaAihod-Hatnuah-Kulanu-Labour one, since Lapid wouldn't want to appear like he has a left wing ideology (or any ideology, really). Maybe if Meretz are pragmatic in this universe they could join for a bigger government, not dependant on just one party.
I tried to craft a scenario where Gantz leads a government, but that would require a weird mix between Haredi parties, left-wing politics and Kahlon. Not impossible, but not likely. Meanwhile, Netanyahu is probably blocked out of forming a government because of a very weak right and the rivalry with Kahlon. So Lapid, unfortunately, is almost certain to be the next PM, but he wouldn't be a terribly strong one, probably having to give out many ministries and with almost every party able to make demands. He'd probably strive to get a Netanyahu-less Likus in opposition, which would leave his left-wing partners unable to make threats lest they're replaced by a right wing party in government.
This is such a great scenario with so much analysis to do, though- well done! Smiley

I suppose I'm a Labor/Civic Union swing voter. I also don't quite understand why Alignment and the Conservatives won't merge.

Alignment is more nationalistic and fiscally conservative, while the Conservatives are more traditionalist "one-nation conservative"-esque and more economically moderate.

It's also because the country is in the middle of a realignment, with many of the parties evolving ideologically.

Also in parliamentary systems a situation could arise where there are many similar parties who stand alone on the ego of their leaders instead of merging.

I don't know enough to name tossups I'd like to see called, I'd just like to see them all Tongue Maybe the rest of the Texan ones if any remain?

Trump to join Alignment; will run in Palm Beach in 2021

Businessman and gadfly Donald Trump has announced today in a joint press conference with Steve Scalise that he is joining the Alignment Party. Trump expressed his concern over the growing "socialistic ways of the Pelosi-Obama regime" as well as casting doubts on the Prime Minster's citizenship. Trump asked, "Has anyone even seen this guy's father? With a middle name like Hussein you would think he's more likely to be one of Saddam's sons than the Prime Minister of this big league great nation."

Trump also announced he will be challenging freshman Labor Representative Lois Frankel in 2021 in the constituency of Palm Beach, claiming his ownership of the Mar-a-Lago hotel gives him "big, deep, beautiful roots" to the district.

Trump also shot daggers at outgoing Foreign Minister Rodham, claiming "she only got the job because of Russian intervention and her sexual predator husband."

Scalise looks like Putin here. Also, ew, it appears Trump is even worse here than irl, good thing he's probably too old to advance anywhere.
