He seems like he would be a really strong candidate... An Astronaut, Gabby Giffords Husband, doesn't seem overly partisan, etc.

He seems to be so oberhyped. Having a wife that unfortunately gets shot by extrémistes means nothing in term of political skills.

The best recruit democrats could get is definitely Kyrsten Sinema.

I tend to think Astronauts are still automatically universally respected and held in high esteem!

As do I, but we're from states that greatly value aerospace. Who knows how Arizonans feel. They might think the whole thing is a boondoggle.

I really like Sinema, but she's bisexual and doesn't believe in God; Arizona is socially conservative enough to the point where I'm not sure if they'd accept her.

It's pretty widely believed among AZ politicos that Sinema and Kelly are the only ones that can pull it off. AZ has a lot of military influence and I'm sure Kelly serving our country in space could help with that.
While Kelly is so anti-gun he might just have the best chance because He and his wife are so well respected(Jan Brewer Calls Gabby a "good friend")
however, It is also known that Giffords and Flake are also friends, He held her hand when her resignation letter was read, so its unlikely that he would run.

Sinema has 1 mil on Flake. Shes moderate, condemned Obama on Bergdahl, moderate on refugees, and hasn't spoken much about guns yet, I think she could do it.
Her being Atheist and bisexual I disagree harms her, while a radical wing of the GOP controls the state gov (because that wing apparently is theyre only one that shows up to vote in primaries) but AZ itself is libertarian on a lot of social issues its just that controlling wing that push the narrative that we aren't.

Gallego is radical(In Arizona Terms) will immediately have socialist ads against him like they said about Sinema in '12(laughable knowing her now)
