I'd rather McMullin primary Hatch than GE him, myself.

IF McMullin ran as an independent rather than going after Hatch in the primary (not sure if UT has a sore loser law prohibiting him from doing both), is there any doubt he'd caucus with the Republicans?

He would of course Caucus R. The mission here is not so much to get a Dem, it's just to get Hatch out by any means possible, because he has been in office too long and is going against his previous promise to retire in 2018.

If I recall, Utah does in fact have a sore loser law, at least according to Ballotpedia (which is often out of date).

You are correct that he would caucus with the Republicans. Still, having that distance between party leadership might help.

I don't mean this to be offensive, but Democrats rooting for McMullin, former policy director for Paul Ryan, is a really stupid thing. Nasty Guy!

I bet there isn't a single issue the two disagree on other than MUH DONALD TRUMP.

It's not so much about McMullin being a radically different person than Hatch in terms of his views, it's about getting out a senator who has overstayed his welcome.

Bluntly, Democrats can't win here, and I feel that McMullin at least has a sane foreign policy, and is a Trump critic, as well as seeming a little bit more down to earth.

Additionally, Hatch has broken his promises time and again, and really needs to stand aside for someone new. Why not McMullin?

I've actually called for Patrick Leahy to be primaried, although not exactly for that reason.

I don't want him in there either - hence my Scott Milne endorsement last year. Unfortunately, Leahy isn't up again until 2022.

Sorry, but my Endorsements don't have a consistent pattern of being right or wrong. I endorsed Pat Toomey, Michael Bennet, and Johnny Isakson - all of them won. I also endorsed people that lost - Milne, Misty Snow, Ann Kirkpatrick to name a few. My Endorsements are kot predictions - they are just Endorsements.

Mcmullin having a sane foreign policy is a pretty laughable idea - the guy probably has a safe foreign policy the same way defense secretary James Mattis has a "sane" foreign policy.

Has he promised to retire, then gone back on that promise about five times?

I happen to like Mattis, so...

The last thing we need is McMullin storming Washington with his divisive propaganda and slowing the most conservative presidential agenda in 30 years. I will endorse Hatch before I vote for this guy.

Jason Chaffetz has announced he won't run for re-election to the House.  Is it possible he's setting himself up for a "draft" in order to replace Hatch and block McMullin?

Nah, Chaffetz wants to be governor badly. He doesn't want to be back in Washington, he wants to be Governor of Utah. Much easier job, and in 8-12 years, he could run for president.
