2nd round vote by 1st round voters:

I really want to get into the head of the 1% first round Macron voters who went Le Pen.
Also, En Marche!!!

Read an article with a 1st round Le Pen voter who voted for Macron in 2nd round. Their reason was that 1st round was more a gut feeling, but by 2nd round with her terrible debate performance and the prospect of leaving EU, the voter was scared off. Idk about Macron 1st/Le Pen 2nds, maybe they were just undecided and flipped a coin for the 1st round, but by the 2nd their views hardened.

This election was a weaker 2002 result, where the large mainstream of the French electorate united (for the most part) against the extreme right. Very impressive for Marine though, to improve by about double what her father got 15 years ago. I'm gonna assume, based on the increasing social liberalism of Western electorates, that Jean-Marie would've done worse in 2017 than he did in 2002. That means Marine had to break through even further than her father could have.

Haha so many leftists who claim Le Pen is a fascist. It's amazing how s*** like this continues

Can we just have a Brown avatar already?

We already have a maroon for Socialists.

Apparently Marine's rebranding is working. Wonder what her more mainstream conservative fans would say about her father, who is the real fascist/racist.

Someone explain what Clinton's tweet means. Is she referencing how the media poo-poos her attempts to point out Russian interference as a reason for her loss?

Le Pen won only 2 departments ?

Not all that surprising considering her 2-1 loss France-wide, but still weird ...

French vote is much less geographically polarized than American election. For example, Clinton won CA by a 2-1 margin in the two-party vote, yet Trump won many counties.

I compared the 2017 to 2002 elections where FN had a candidate in the runoff.

Chirac: 25,537,956
Le Pen: 5,525,032

Macron: 20,753,798
Le Pen: 10,644,118

Le Pen gained about 5 million between 2002-2017, Chirac/Macron lost about 5 million. Striking example of the low turnout as well, because France has about 5 million more people now (2017) than it did in 2002.
