How likely do you think congress misses the deadline and how will it impact 2018 and Trump's approval rating?

Probably quite small.  I think the WH will cave after Republicans and Democrats make clear that a wall is not happening.

I think it's very UNlikely that Congress misses the deadline. But I doubt there will be funding for Trump's big egoWall included. So whether he throws a fit and vetoes the bill or not will be the biggest factor in whether there's a shutdown or not.

1. Trump tries to get border wall funding into bill
2. Effort fails, Congress passes CR w/o funding for wall
3. Trump signs bill
4. Trump blames Democrats for holding up wall funding

Somehow I don't think the president or the White House grasps how to avert a government shutdown or even the political impacts of the government shutting down. I assume Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are educating the president as we speak in a bid to save their majorities.

Probable. Ryan can't hold up the government while having to deal with the antics of those like McConnell, Bannon, and Trump.

Well that's what happens when an inexperienced president surrounds himself with inexperienced people.
