This bill should actually include a couple more provisions that were added before it passed in the House.  This was the final version I think.

Anyway, I'm glad to see this got to the floor while I'm still here!  Smiley  This is meant to combat our huge food waste problem.  Something like billions of tons of food is estimated to be wasted each year, especially by big markets.  The problem with food isn't that we don't have enough of it.  It's that we don't manage it properly.  The thing is that a lot of food that's taken off the shelf at stores and dumped isn't actually because its bad for people.  It's because stores don't want customers to see food on their shelves thats approaching the expiration date.  That's fine, but a lot of that food is actually still good and could go a long way to helping hunger charities and food banks feed people that desperately need it as opposed to just giving us a bunch of overflowing and nasty landfills.  This bill is meant to help facilitate the flow of food from stores to food banks instead of food dumps.  The provision about getting the regions involved got a lot of interest in the House too and we ended up passing with 8 votes and 1 abstention.  I hope you all will consider supporting it too.

Thank you Senator Siren for providing the correct version. I messed that up. That aside, are there any other comments? I do like the idea that unsold food doesn't just get thrown out.

I would prefer the input of more than just two Senators on this.

This bill has my support.  I wonder if it would be appropriate to add something similar to New Mexico's new law that prohibits debt-shaming at public schools?  I would suppose this is something that states and regions can legislate, but also falls within the purview of the federal government.

I can have something written up by tomorrow, if so.

I would definitely support that.  I'm not sure whether this bill or a new bill is the best place to do that, but yeah, I'd support it.

Given that we have a section that pertains to schools, that would seem to be a natural place to slot in that amendment.

As I expressed during the House procedings (IIRC), this seems fairly common-sense.

I suggest people look this over one more time. Since we just rolled over Senates, I will give Senators extra time and say that a final vote will be opened in 48 hours if there are no more comments.
