At this point, I'd almost rather they succeeded. The North Korean (Kim) government is going to be feeling increasingly desperate as failure after failure racks up. And with the same thing happening to Trump domestically, combined with his bellicose rhetoric on NK and apparent joy at firing missiles on bad guys...

North Korea disrespected the wishes of China & its highly respected President when it launched, though unsuccessfully, a missile today. Bad!

Not particularly. Trump has a long history of crushing on autocratic leaders and demonstrations of might (Putin, Tiananmen Square incident). He likely envies the considerably less restrained power held by President Xi, plus the man likely flattered Trump during their last meeting to gain leverage with him.

More teenage-ish tweets from trump.
China and the world is laughing at him and the USA.
Very professional and mature way to handle a potential nuclear exchange/attack with another country (North Korea).
Great.

There's little to suggest that pure threats and sanctions work. Psychologically, something positive has to be offered or occur to break the cycle of escalation.

Psychologically ! ?
Be careful when using that term around not just one, but two deranged leaders surrounding this recent potential crisis (Kim Jong-Un and trump).
I mean really ..... how do you think this is going to end, when you have two crackbrains running the show ?

Retired Admiral John Kirby says .....
President Trump, protecting South Korea is not a real estate deal.

CNN National Security Analyst John Kirby is a retired rear admiral in the US Navy who served as a spokesman for both the State and Defense departments in the Obama administration.

What evidence do you have that Kim Jong-un is deranged? While his moves could easily have come straight off an evil dictator checklist, they haven't been particularly deranged.

Somewhere I recently read that the US might be playing a part on why some of their missiles have been malfunctioning. Apparently, we have been sabotaging the electronic systems within the missiles ((possibly a computer/program virus).

I read that too but I thought it was just speculation rather than a report based on a leak or something.

Here is an article about NK's economic reforms and their effect.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/30/world/asia/north-korea-economy-marketplace.html

Un does not come off here as deranged, or suicidal.

Although one must question the Times, as they keep insinuating market reforms will lead to regime change. It's as if they want Un to conclude the reforms are a mistake and should be rolled back. While otoh, the obvious hole in the Times' argument- market reforms in China and Vietnam have not led to regime change.

For once, I agree with you. Economic reform in post-Soviet nominally-Communist states always consolidates or at least prolongs the incumbent regime's power. It's incredibly naïve to think that a powerless petite bourgeoisie will be able, or even willing, to affect regime change.
