Undignified behaviour that undermines his already pretty pathy legacy.

Seriously. I would like to see what all the critics would do if they were in his shoes. I highly doubt all of you would turn down $400k opportunities out of principle.
If I'd just inked a $60M book deal? Absolutely.

It would only be acceptable if he wasn't gonna continue to stay involved in politics.

But he is. He was clearly instrumental in getting Perez elected DNC Chair. He's indicated that he wants to pursue an agenda to get civic participation up, tackle gerrymandering, and to get money out of politics. Does anybody seriously think that this isn't representative of a system that's set up to buy influence? It's written all over it.

It's not so much disgraceful as it is hypocritical IMO. If he wants to do it, that's his business, but it throws a wrench in the idea that the American centre to centre-left is for the working stiff.

This hasn't been a problem with other presidents.  Shouldn't matter when the black guy does it.

Obama has had many faults, but this is very much a non-issue.

Nothing inherently wrong with it, but whether it is wise is arguable.   I suppose the question here is: can one raise money and support from the centers of wealth while still maintaining one's critical distance and independence ?  If No, then that severely restricts one's ability to find the resources to accomplish what may be a very worthy mission.  But if Yes, then how?

Perfectly within the norms of the contemporary Democratic Party. Which is the truly disturbing thing.

What's hypocritical about the majority of Republicans not having an issue with it?

Because it should be much more than a mere majority.

Bloody disgraceful. What happened to change? I thought he was different from other politicians.but no, he's proved himself to be a spineless, Wall Street backing coward.

Have you not followed American politics for the year where a sizable chunk of Republicans were energized with fury against Wall Street?

The Obamas will donate $2 million to summer jobs programs in Chicago.

Can we put this to rest now?
