Their judicial philosophies are harder to summarize, but here's an "ideological spectrum" to the extent they apply to the Supreme Court.

Roberts gets minuses from the vote on the individual mandate (I would have sided with the conservatives, I am opposed to the mandates), but I can understand people calling it a tax. Thomas also is helped from a case (it's kind of obscure) from about 2 years ago that was about Confederate-honoring license plates, where he ruled against them. (I'd need to look it up again.)

What did Gorsuch do to you guys that he is ideologically worse than Thomas and Alito? Is it the recent media attacks/firestorm/attempts to destroy his legitimacy?

The worst; belongs in the Hall of Shame: Kennedy

The mediocre: Alito, Breyer, Ginsburg, Gorsuch, Kagan, Roberts, Sotomayor, and Thomas.

1. Thomas
2. Alito
3. Gorsuch (could move ahead of Alito, but I need proof with rulings on SCOTUS first)
4. Roberts

5. Kennedy

6. Breyer
7. Kagan
8. Sotomayor (honestly, I have no strong preference between Kagan and Sotomayor)
9. Ginsburg

This looks good. Gorsuch might be #7 under different circumstances, but he will always be ninth due to the #StolenSeat

This is hard, because Anthony Kennedy is such a repugnant, incoherent, times-serving shill that he richly deserves to be #9, and yet there are also several other justices who deserve to be below him.

Kennedy: Aye, just because that's the best Reagan would give. Wouldn't do it under any other context

Roberts: Aye

Gorsuch: Nay, specifically to give McConnell the middle finger for the seat theft.

Steve Bannon does not sit on the Supreme Court, and he renounced his title and position from his days as the Grim Reaper.

TBD. Gorsuch. Could be either 7, 8 or 9 .

I throw Thomas a bone because sometimes he actually has an interesting take on the law and surprises us, but I have never found anything I've liked about Alito, other than he is a baseball guy.

1. Roberts
2. Thomas (gets credit for teaching one of my classes)
3. Gorsuch (I'll stupidly give credit for saying things I like in nomination committee)
T4. RBG and Kagan (RBG is the better opinion writer, but she's had more opinions for me to dislike. Both are quality justices)
6. Alito (I haven't read much of his stuff and I've disliked most of the opinions I've read)
7. Breyer (There are things to like, but I just haven't come across his opinions as much)

8. Kennedy (incoherent judicial philosophy, I occasionally agree with his opinions)
9. Sotomayor  (incoherent judicial philosophy, I rarely agree with her opinions)
