I remember hearing an anecdote once that Barry Goldwater changed his mind on lowering the voting age to 18 after someone said to him"If you are old enough to die for your country then you are old enough to vote." Friedrich Hayek is said to have rejected socialism after someone told him that there was no accurate way to establish pricing under a socialist system.

I'm curious, has a single argument or even slogan changed your thinking on a political issue?

Yes. The "better a live dog than a dead lion" campaign has made me support banning all guns.

I became pro-choice when it was observed to me that it makes no sense to say that potentiality has rights.

"Marriage is a legal contract. If you can enter into a legal contract, you can get married."

(though that's kind of one I thought myself when arguing gay marriage, then applied more broadly)

Might not one be able to enter into one kind of contract but not another?

Back in college in like 2010 I was playing Kings with some friends, and after drawing hotseat I had to game out a Fuq Marry Kill for the people in the room. When I reached kill, I had to choose between 2 men, 1 gay and 1 straight. Upon the gay guy reminding me that he doesn't compete against me for mates, I immediately selected the straight guy, and have since never understood why I was ever supposed to care about the gays marrying again.
